and now it's too late given that I need to wake up at 7:30 tomorrow morning. I'm exhausted because I had a long day. I got a call from Jerrad's dad this afternoon asking if I would work my usual late night shift tonight instead of last night (yesterday I didn't work with Jerrad at all because it was Memorial Day and I had the day off). At the end of every block of 5 hours that I spend with Jerrad, I'm always both exhausted and excited to go on with my life.
That's what I was going to write much of this post about. Tomorrow when I have the afternoon off (my schedule doesn't involve as many hours of work this week as the rest of the summer because Jerrad isn't finished with school yet; once he is out of school for the summer, I'll be spending more time caring for him and less time hanging out in Dinkytown near the University of Minnesota), I'll write my enlightened post about Jerrad and how important my work with children has been to me in the last few years. I was inspired by Jerrad tonight to write a post like this one, but now I'm too tired to do it.
Interesting tidbit: Some of you may or may not know that I am participating in some research studies through the psychology department at the University of Minnesota this summer. I'm working with Jerrad part-time and I'm making the rest of my summer money by participating in these experiments. Today I started one of the experiments, and I'm taking different types of vision tests. The researcher I'm working with wants to study people with normal vision (or someone with vision that's normal with contacts or glasses) in order to better understand and help people with vision that's not normal, even with glasses or contacts (macular degeneration of the eye). Through the tests I took today, I discovered that I have better than 20/20 vision! That's wonderful, considering my mom got glasses because of a bad bike accident when she was 10 and my dad got glasses when he was 21. Often, but not always, young people get glasses about the same time his or her parents did, but I'm beating the odds.
I have better than 20/20 vision! Yay!
