Irresponsible parents

Here's to my (sometimes) irresponsible parents improving on their housekeeping skills to become just a tad bit more responsible. Here's what happened today: I went to the fridge to put away the cheddar cheese after making myself two mini-quesadillas. As I put the cheese away, I saw a Tupperware container with some delicious-looking black beans in it. I thought, "Huh, these look good. Mom happened to put the date on the top, and huh, it says 11/5. That wasn't too long ago. This should be delicious." I sat down and began to enjoy my snack of mini-quesadillas and black beans. Three-fourths of the way through, I realized, "Shit! 11/5 was a really long time ago, in the grand scheme of things!" I went to check the calendar to realize these black beans were 2.5 weeks old. Why can't my mom or mo' mama throw away the food in the fridge that isn't fresh enough to eat safely anymore? Are they still in college, or what? That's what I should be dealing with in the dorm fridge, not at home! Grrr.......

Here's to hoping I don't get a rousing case of food poisoning tonight, although Mom is right, "Hey, at least they [the beans] weren't covered in fuzzy white stuff [mold] and they didn't taste bad!" I just rolled my eyes at her and took a deep breath. Aww, wouldn't it just be awful if I got food poisoning? Now I can't stop thinking that I'm too warm and have a fever and every 20 minutes I double check myself to be sure I don't have a stomachache. Drat.
