Last night I had an "you've got to be kidding me" moment. While I was stopped to get gas on my way to work Gary called and asked if I'd mine staying home. Of course not. So I head on back to the house (after making a trip to Starbucks). When I got home I eat some fried chicken and look forward to possibly having the whole night off. As I was sitting (almost 7pm) on the couch thinking about what I was going to watch on tv while waiting to call the hospital back later the phone rang. Something told me before I looked at the caller id that it was going to be the hospital. It wasn't my unit calling, but our hospital staffing office saying that I needed to come in as soon as I could to work on another unit (2 West). I was like WTH?! So not fair! I go to the hospital and head up to my unit to get my stethoscope and clipboard. Gary was still there and he said that originally staffing had wanted someone to go work in the ER just to help out, but he didn't think I'd be comfortable doing that. I would have much rather liked to have done that over getting pulled to another nursing unit (he didn't know that I had been pulled down to the ER once before so it wouldn't have been that big of a deal). So I go to 2 West, which is a post-op type unit (post abdominal sugery, gastric bypass, etc...). I had several things going against me to start off. First of all, I was late. No time to write out report like I would have liked. Secondly, I'm on a different unit where I'm not familiar with where things are located. Also I'm not as familiar with these types of patients (not that being a nurse means I shouldn't know or don't know who to take care of a variety of patients). Another thing was that I was assigned the most worrisome patient on the unit (a man who who is a retired judge), which the nurses have been having to take turns taking care of. Anyway, my night wasn't that bad. It could have been worse. And I did get a free meal ticket.
I watched the season finale tonight. OMG! The ending! I'm still in shock. Not so much over Izzie, but about George. I really didn't pay much attention to the storyline with the man coming in after being hit by the bus. At least I didn't until Meredith realized that it was George. I was so blown away by that. I guess we'll have to wait until next season to find out what happens, but things aren't looking to good for either character.
