Hi!
I haven't made an entry in a million years because I was back East for two weeks. I went to Boston, where my father's side of the family is from; Vermont, for a family friend's 50th birthday party; Delaware and New Jersey, where J's family lives; Manhattan, to visit my cousins; and Maine, where I'm from. It was a great trip. I saw my father for three days and went to this crazy two-day gala birthday party. Then I went to Delaware and New Jersey to meet J's family. J's family is great and it was really cool to see where he's from. I got to see pictures of him when he was little and all that good stuff. We spent four days at the Delaware beaches, which are really nice. Then we went to NYC for a night, which is always fun. Then it was onto Maine to visit my mother. We hung out with my mother, her boyfriend, some other cousins, and my grandmother. It was all very fun. We got back last Saturday.
On Monday I started graduate school. Graduate school rules. I'm in a program to gain my Master of Public Policy (MPP) at UCLA. They'll be the first letters after my name on business cards! There's 40 people in my program. In policy you can focus on lots of different things from environmental policy to drug and crime policy. Policy just means that you're finding ways to solve problems on a large scale. Creating a policy is a way to address a problem for many years. My focus is non-profit leadership. Hopefully some day I'll be able to start my own non-profit.
This whole week we were in "Math Camp". It was preparation to do advanced mathematics. We have to learn advanced economics and statistics. It's pretty wild, I used to think that I was a math retard and now I'm doing calculus. When I was 19 I went to art school for two and half years. At art school we didn't have to do any math. When I was 21 I transfered to a Cal State LA. To get into the school you had to take a math exam and depending on how you did you were placed in certain math classes. I bombed the math exam. I couldn't even remember what the square root symbol was. I was placed in super-remedial math classes. But in the end I got through all the math classes I had to take, and now I'm like a math genius. Well not quite, but I'm still doing pretty tough math.
So that's what's been keeping me busy. I'm really excited about school. Today I biked from UCLA to my house in Los Feliz. It took an hour and a half. I like biking. I like not having to drive.
I do miss Love's Child. If any of the Love's Child gang reads this, I MISS YOU!!! Hopefully I'll come visit soon.
Well it's Friday night so I need to get a move on. I'm having a bunch of friends over tonight. I'll write again soon.
love
molly
