Writer's Block: St. Valentine's Day

Feb 14, 2012 09:36

As with many other things, it has become a commercialized thing. I like to think of it as commemorating the act of a person standing up for what they believe in.
St. Valentine was a priest and it was forbidden for priests to marry a couple during wartime because the govt felt the soldier could be more focused on fighting if he didn't have a wife to worry about.
Valentine married couples in love in secret. When he was found out, he was killed.
Whether one believes this story to be true or a fictional story, it is a tribute to being true to oneself.
