Lost: Maternity Leave of Senses

I adjusted the episode title a little, because I was left with a definite impression of "Who in the what now?" after Wednesday's episode. Anyone else feel the same?

My main point of confusion, other than "Why the hell did Kate come along?", was this: in Claire's flashback, we repeatedly see her baby getting some kind of shot through Claire's belly. We also hear about the "vaccine," of which there is only enough for one person. So I assumed the shot *was* the vaccine. Maybe I'm crazy that way. In fact I must be, because then why is Claire raging through the place looking for the vaccine for her sick baby, who I thought must already have gotten the vaccine? If he didn't get the vaccine, then what was the shot?

I don't even care what the disease is. Which is evidently a question for another time, since he turned out not to be sick.

It was nice that Rousseau's daughter is alive and well, though. That was my one "Aww" moment, aside from the obligatory cute-but-definitely-older-than-one-month-old Aaron shots.

My confusion, see, may come from being sleep-deprived, as I myself have a one-month-old. (Working on six weeks old, actually.) So I'm also in the habit of critiquing baby-related details as I watch this show. Don't bundle him up like that; it's got to be 90 degrees on that island! I've been to Hawaii, man; it's HOT! Infants get overheated, you know. Peanut butter, Claire? You're eating peanut butter? Don't you know there's a risk of your baby developing a peanut allergy that way? Now you're leaving him with Sun while you go looking for the vaccine, and you don't know how long you'll be away. What the heck is he supposed to eat while you're gone? He's too young for mashed bananas. Do they have formula in the hatch now?

Also, in the preview for this week's show, Sun requesting a pregnancy test from Sawyer kind of cracked me up. For one thing, what are the odds he has one? For another, why take a test? Why not just wait? What else do you have going on right now? And even if she gets a test, and it's positive, what's she going to do next? "Sawyer, I need some folic acid. And some iron supplements. And a fetal heart rate monitor." Anyway, congrats to Sun & Jin if the pink line shows up. That will be one pretty baby.

And one final bit of confusion, relating this time to Sawyer: how come everyone seems to be letting him get away with the "I have the guns; you all suck" bit? Why doesn't Sayid or Locke use their master-tracker skillz and find the guns? And even if they can't, why aren't they waylaying him in his sleep, tying him to a tree, and saying, "Oh no you don't"? Because they've already done that once, and the novelty is gone? Just struck me as odd. Oh well. Onward. I'll keep watching, because I'm lame like that.

Edit: Oh, and Eko: what in the Sam Hill was up with the confession of brutal death to the imprisoned Izzie N. Other? Just wanted a freaked-out audience for your chin-grooming adventure? I admit, y'all are hard up for entertainment on the island, but still. "Hi, I'm Eko. My hobbies include impersonating priests, growing beard-knobbles for each person I kill and then cutting knobbles off with knives, and marking X's on trees I like. Basically I'm just a normal guy."
