Yupyupyup. I almost felt bad for some of the other movies - some of them were really good, and deserved to win stuff, and if it had been a year without RotK, I would have been rooting for them. But no. But, no.

I am so proud. I am so pleased.

(Sorry, no pics - I want them, too!)

:beams: I am so proud.

I still think Sean was outright robbed of his nomination.

I agree there Ahsirakh. But eleven wins is nothing to be sad about by any means. I'm ecstatic over the simple fact that this means that an actual fantasy film has been taken seriously by the snobby big wigs in the business and recognized for being a great film!

I agree about the acting awards. The way I would have done the acting nominations. . .

*Viggo Mortensen for Best Actor
*Sean Astin for Best Supporting Actor
*Mirando Otto for Best Supporting Actress

Don't they have a category for best ensemble cast? If they don't, they should, and all of the cast should have won that one. I don't think the movie would have been as good without all of them there, and they all deserve the recognition.

Though out of those nominated for Best Actor, that definitely should have gone to Johnny Depp. *grumbles*

No, the Academy Awards do not have such a category.

They don't have that category (though many other serious movie awards on the face of the planet do). So the only way they could honor the cast was through giving them Best Picture, really, because that's supposed to represent the coming-together of all the elements as near perfectly as possible. Even acting nominations (and, sigh, Astin, sigh, Serkis, even sigh, Wood and Mortensen) wouldn't do justice to the Hills, Wenhams, Monaghans, Boyds, Ottos, .... and about 25000 nameless (OK, OK, small-font-name) other cast/crew members.

So far the only *major* award that gives out best ensemble is the SAG (Screen Actors' Guild) - which RotK did indeed win this year.

It's the SAG equivalent of Best Motion Picture - since the entire awards' show is acting driven and voted on only by members of SAG.

I agree, some of the actors should have been recognised, although to tell the truth I wanted Johnny to win best actor, and feel that he was robbed.

Poor Johnny, let me kiss it better...

OMG, your icon is hilarious! :D

And I think Sean Astin would have so deserved Best Supporting Actor award. Actually, Ian McKellen was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for FotR, but I fail to understand how Academy was able to look past all those wonderful acting jobs. Viggo, Sean, Ian - damn, Miranda Otto would've deserved Best Supporting Actress.

Ah well, I have nothing to complain about. Eleven Oscars is quite a bunch (and still, no movie has ever received more than eleven...)

Thanks for the icon comment.

I too would have liked to see Ian nominated for best supporting, and Miranda.

Oh well, 11 will have to do *g*

No photos of teary-eyed actors, but if you want this icon, you can have it.

You must admit, after shutting out fantasy for decades, the Acadamy has rather redeemed itself!

Exactly!!!! But then, I believe no other fantasy film has deserved it quite like LOTR did. :)
