Cain and Molly had said little to each other over the course of the afternoon. It wasn’t exactly an awkward silence, but more that they were each lost in their own thoughts. So much had changed since Cain had lost his memory, and Molly was still reeling from everything that had happened to her over the last week ( Read more... )

He grins as he watches her. His eyes travel all over her, delighting in every curve and inch of skin as it becomes visible and he smiles as he brings his eyes back to hers.

"Good morning, Molly."

He grins at her.

"How are you feeling?"

"Strange." It's the first word that comes to mind. She clarifies, "I don't mean physically."

So much has happened lately. She feels like she's a couple of steps behind, and she wants to catch up.

He sits back more and holds out his hands to her.

"Talk to me. What do you mean?"

He watches her, eyes concerned.

She pauses to grab a light dressing gown to slip on, and then goes to sit on his knee trying to think of how to explain.

"You know what it's like to lose something. That feeling that you get inside? Frustration that it's lost, and the need to find it, and then the relief when you finally do?"

Instead of holding his hand, she toys with his fingers in an absent sort of way, not really seeing them, but taking comfort from that that that they are there.

"Well, I've lost my parents. And I don't." She swallows hard against the lump that is suddenly in her throat. "I know that it's no use looking, so there can't be that feeling that you get when you find what was lost... and I'm not making any sense, am I?"

He curls his arms around her and listens. He hugs her gently against him.

"You are making perfect sense, Molly. When someone experiences loss, they need to find closure, and you havent yet. Maybe partially we can get that for you by going back and getting your things and setting matters right."

he kisses her softly.

"Whatever I can do to help, I will."

"I'm. I'm a little afraid to back." She averts her eyes from him, because it's something she's ashamed of. "Everything there has changed. My parents are gone, my brothers have this whole other life that I didn't even know about, and now Arthur..."

She tried to fight back the tears, but a few escape while she struggles to get herself under control.

"Arthur is dead because of me."

He holds her close, gently caressing her back, trying to let her know he is there.

"No, Molly. You can't blame yourself. It isnt your fault. He made his choices, just as you made yours. He was killed by evil men and evil magic, and it is not your fault."

He kisses her tears away and kisses her softly.

"And there is nothing to be ashamed of with being afraid. I am terrified."

"But if I had just been honest with him... if I had told him while we were still at school that there was no hope of getting back together, he wouldn't have been there!"

She wipes at her eyes agitatedly. It sudden occurs to her that if Arthur hadn't been there, hadn't sent an owl asking her to meet him, she would most likely have been in the house when the Death Eaters had arrived. She would be dead now.

"And now the Death Eaters will be after me. After my brothers."

She can see why Cain is terrified now, too.

"Molly, he wanted somethign you didnt want to give, and he wanted to have you listen to him. You honored him and were kind to him, and gave him respect. There is nothing wrong with what you did. Nothing."

He hugs her again.

"And you and I will stand together. We can do anything together."

His voice firms into solid belief.

"I'm sorry. This isn't what you signed on for, is it?"

Her voice his small, and even though she appreciates his faith in her--in them as a team--this wasn't how she wanted him to see her world.

So many thoughts are chasing themselves around her head, that it's beginning to ache.

"We should be safe enough to go back just to pack up a few things. As long as we don't leave the house. I've made a short list of things I should take, but my mind just doesn't seem to want to..." She makes a vague gesture with her hands. She still feels sort of disconnected.

"Hey, hey, hey,... shhh, it'll be okay. I love you and nothing is going to change that. Nothing."

He snuggles her close again.

"We should go to your, ah, Diagon Alley, and get whatever magic ingredients you might need for magic, and go to your bank and close that out."

He smiles softly.

"We will be okay, Molly. We will. We faced a lot of stuff in my world, and we came out okay. And we will do the same on your world."

Molly sniffles, and allows herself to be cuddled. It feels good to share the burden of this, and she nods.

"I hadn't even thought about those sorts of things. I don't have much in my account, but I suppose it would be best to have it here, where I can have access to it more easily."

Honestly, she has been doing well supporting herself here, by working in the gardens. She hopes she still has a job when this is all said and done.

"Diagon Alley should be relatively safe...I don't think they'd be stupid enough to attack anyone in the middle of a crowded shopping district. Not with so many wanded witches and wizards around."

"Either way, I am coming through loaded for bear. This time with weapons and equipment I know will work right."

He hugs her.

"I mean what I said, though. You and I together, we can do anything."

Molly has the sudden and totally ridiculous vision of Cain driving a tank down Diagon Alley, and fights back a giggle.

Most wizards would have no comprehension of what a gun was, even if one was pointed at them.

"Thank you. I am going to need you. When do you think we should go? I'm worried about my brothers."

"As soon as you feel comfortable, but not for at least a day. We both need some rest time. Maybe tomorrow evening? We can put ourselves together, rest, and then head out together, ready for whatever happens."

"All right."

Molly sits up straighter, and uses the sleeve of her dressing gown to wipe at her eyes.

"That sounds like a good plan. You can use the Floo to get to Diagon Alley straight from my house."

She hopes that the Floo will work for a Muggle...

"But for now, how about some breakfast. Then maybe a walk outside?"
