So, I've eased my way into an easier schedule, and it was so dull for the first few days. Then I remembered a show that I watched an episode of at my friend's house the weekend prior and, thought, "why not?" and gave it a shot.
I marathoned to season 2 (haven't done that in AGES) and I'm still going strong. It capitalizes on my favorite formula: zany, dorky, doesn't-take-itself-too-seriously but with occasional moments of angst, profundity, and even whump in perfect balance. The script is extremely well done and is unpredictable, fresh, and clever. The characters are absolutely fantastic and NONE of the female characters are annoying. In fact, I think it's the characterization that truly makes it. Each character is so perfectly fleshed out! Guh. This is like porn to me.
The reason I took a quick break from the episode I'm currently watching is that there's one character, Stark, (guess who he's modeled after) whose actor has perfected the shit-eating grin. His sass is on a masterful level, and holy cow. It's been a while since I've seen such smart-assery. One of my favorite character traits is extreme unflappability, which he has in spades. The only problem with him is that I cheated and wiki'd the show and it turns out he's only in the first three seasons. I don't know what I'm gonna do after that...(the scene I'm paused at is the one where Jack is at the diner with his wife when ALlison and Stark walk in and there's a three-way bout of awkwardness with Stark sitting there with such uncontained sassy glee at the spectacle before him--ugh. Such love. And the episode before where he says "good job" to Nathan and remarks how that didn't even leave a bad taste in his mouth, then Jack says "wait for it" and the ensuing wide-toothed grin when he says, "yep, there it is" is the epitome of shit-eating.)
However, Henry is also a very interesting character. I'm in a rare position where I don't know any spoilers, so I can't wait to see what comes of him.
In fact, I haven't even taken the time to check out the newest Dr Who episode (though, while I'm on this subject: Capaldi is the greatest thing EVER).
So, in other news, rugby is still FANTASTIC. We've been doing a lot of back drills, and I've learned that I really could never, EVER be a back. I suck at juking and their fancy-smancy passing work. But, I'm having SO MUCH FUN. Our first game is in October and I'm thinking of, in lieu of flying, making it into a 48h road trip and throwing in a visit to my dad at that time. My mom is gonna have a coronary when I mention this to her.
