Today was the last day of my ambulatory rotation. It was interesting, but I'm pretty sure I could never do out-patient medicine. The ID clinic I worked at 2 days a week was really fun, but that was mostly the doctor, his scribe, and the PA student I worked with. It was funny because I often have trouble expressing or explaining myself with words, or I get flustered and my words get all jarbled up (it doesn't help that my thoughts are never organized in a way other people can easily understand) so the doctor kept giving me B vitamins in a not-so-subtle expression of concern. One day he gave me ginko, so I assume I really worried him that day.
The less said about cardiology, the better. I have never looked so stupid and inept. The patient who complained about his RA because it prevented him from hitting his wife in the morning (facetiously, his wife was right there and laughing with him) was gold, though.
In other news, my cousin convinced me to give barefoot running a try. I have a pare of Filas that are similar to those fancy Vibrams I have my eyes on, and went running twice in them. I loved it. I love the way it changes my stride so that I'm more on the balls of my feet. I actually did my routine run in a shorter time than in the past even though I couldn't run as far in one go as usual. My calves have never been so sore, though. I would get up in the middle of the night and be almost unable to walk. They're much better now (taking yesterday off helped) and I'm gonna try and not be lazy so that I go tonight. I've had problems running on Thursdays and Fridays lately...
My Wednesday run was fantastic because it was raining the entire time I was out and the weather was about 55 degrees. Absolutely perfect running conditions (and the minimalist shoes were fun to run through puddles in).
SPN has started season 9. I'm in love with the premise, even though the actual two episodes released so far haven't been all that good. The second episode seemed a bit pointless to me other than establishing Abaddon's role this season and showing a bit more of the Ezekiel/Sam dynamic. This next episode looks painful though. The promo pictures were extremely intriguing. As before mentioned, I'm a huge h/c fan (which is why I think Castiel's character is a god-send), but I'm gonna bet that having Ezekiel handy will severely limit the "comfort" part of Castiel being stabbed. Oh well...
But I'm interested to see where they're taking these new plot developments. These early episodes seem to consist of setting up the dominoes, so I'm excited about the latter half of this season.
WtNV was so frustrating! "Yellow Helicopters" left at a terrible cliff-hanger and then "Cassettes" did nothing to solve it! My frustration didn't last long after I realized that "Cassettes" didn't do much to solve anything. We got no information about what had been happening in Night Vale since Strexcorp came to town. Nothing about the recurring characters, nothing about the secret police, no news at all except the new museum exhibit and (arguably) traffic. Extremely weird. And, as always, I'm really looking forward to the next episode. Who'd'a thought that this little community radio show could develop such a plot and characters?!?
Also since my last update I started playing sand volleyball. I played with our classes intramurals team and...actually got almost pissed off. I'm extremely laid back with sports, and yet, for some reason, everyone gets pissed while playing volleyball and all take it extremely seriously and it's really infectious. Also, since I'm still learning both the techiniques and how the game flows, I've been screwing up majorly quite a bit, so I'm positive some of that ire was directed at me. I didn't play this Thursday, partly because I haven't been feeling really social lately (having to work with tons of patients all day has that effect on me) and I just wasn't feeling like further decreasing my mood.
