A ruby Tuesday

So I had a pretty mellow weekend. Ryan was down for a couple of days, and I just saw him off on the Greyhound bus back home to Peterborough. Sigh. Lordy, I miss him when he's not here. We had the best time, just watching movies, chilling at Starbucks (WARNING: do NOT try their new green tea frapawhatever; failure to heed this warning will ( Read more... )

I'm curious what rhythm you were tapping to get "3-and-a" in a 6/8 time signature. it sounds like a quarter, two eights, eight note triplet...then...THEN???

and my fingers are crossed too :)

That's so funny! I just got back from class, reread my post, and was like, "WTF did I type??!??" and corrected it. In case that doesn't make things any clearer, we were counting IN 6/8, but adding little flourishes at odd times and trying to figure out how you'd count THOSE, hence getting all over the place. We were cracking up cause he'd do something requiring such small subdivisions we couldn't count it, and he'd just do them without counting, and . . . I guess you had to be there. But once we cut the eighth notes into four and added offbeat rolls, it was giggle-o-rama. For us, anyway :)

I was wondering myself what the "3-and-a" was. It's definitely doable - actually, if I'm doing it right in my head, it sounds really cool. Bah-bahdah-bahdahbah, bah-bahdah-bahdahbah. But... now I think I've put it in 3/4, actually. Or 3/4 in 1, which is mathematically the same. Hmm, now I've got something to ponder. Hmmmm.

Mathematically, indeed, though the note value is different so we were wondering if the counting was supposed to be different, like do e and a have to be sixteenths? Or could they be 32nds if you're subdividing eighths?? Not like it matters at all . . . we were just rambly. And why did you avoid my question about long distance lover???

Because of my earlier post that said, "I'm not mentioning The Boy in public posts yet because there are those on my f-list that I don't want to know about us yet as we're not official and it could cause unnecessary drama." ;-)

Pop over to my LJ, I'll explain it in more detail ;-)
