A woman was shot in the head early Sunday morning as she was walking near North and Susquehanna streets, according to Harrisburg Mayor Stephen Reed.

Despite her head injury, police found the woman conscious and talking when they arrived at the area about 12:50 a.m. The woman told officers that she was being followed by two men as she walked down North 2nd Street toward North Street, Reed said.

The woman told police she was shot when the men caught her after she tried to run away from them.

Investigators plan to talk to the woman this afternoon. Reed did not identify the woman and said more details will be released as they become available.

Anyone with information is asked to call Harrisburg police at 717-255-3131.

This happened on the same block that I live on. We heard the woman scream and then saw all of the cop cars show up. I searched all weekend for information on what happened and finally it appears 2 days later and only because of the family pushing the issue at every news resource in the area. I hate that my city would rather hush up all evidence of crimes and keep everything unreported just to get people to move here instead of taking the initiative necessary to make changes in the amount of crimes. They instead focus on covering things up. I have rarely (once or twice) seen cop cars on my block for prevention. I often see them after something happens, but they're never riding around checking things out. I see the drug dealers out all the time though. Isn't it logical to assume that they deal so much there because the cops never ride through? Are our city police too dumb or busy or whatever to figure that out for themselves?
