Athletic Training Make up Assignment

I attended my D.C Everest meet on Thursday, January 24th. This meet proved to be a successful meet for us as a team and as individuals. Our varsity dominated Everest’s varsity 138.9 to 100.15, likewise our JV also beat their JV with a 97.5 to 63.1. Our beam was not going the greatest during this meet with many wobbles and uneasiness. I think our team needed to focus more and we needed more team support on this event. Even though beam was not the greatest, vault sure was. We broke our team score along with one of our teammates breaking the new vault record which was just broke the week before. I think our strategies were to stay focused and take each skill one at a time. We only did skills that we could do so things did not look sloppy in our routines.

The sportsmanship during this meet was one of the lowest its been. The team wasn’t cheering for JV as they should have been and even avoided cheering for some varsity members. The parents sportsmanship was great. They always yell for us from the stands and congratulated us afterwards. Sportsmanship is tough in this sport because everyone is trying to succeed individually while trying to keep their spot of varsity or JV, and also trying to have a high score for the team so some people get stingy with who they cheer for.

Some rules that were followed consistently were the usual. No flash photography was recognized a lot, not turning up the music on floor too loud, not forgetting to salute the judges and keeping a smiling face even if you fall off beam( the judges don’t like if you give them a nasty look.

One thing that I did not like was when a girl from Everest was doing a sook on vault, it’s a vault when you do a flip instead of just a handspring, and she didn’t rotate enough and landed on her neck. It was especially scary because a girl on our team does sooks. It opened up my eyes on how dangerous this sport can be. I learned on how hard the team works and how even if one event doesn’t go the best to just try your hardest on the next.
