House, health and hobby

The house is coming along. We went to see it at the weekend and they've started tiling the roof. I think the roofer caught the flu from being up there in the wet and cold though. We met gothwalk's dad and talked to him about stairs and doors. Due to space (and I thought it was a big house!), we're very limited in what we can do about stairs. We can choose the wood and some styling stuff, but there's only one place and direction it can go without being steep (legally, but uncomfortably steep). He's going to make up some wood samples to show us. We've to come up with a better idea what we want for the front door, as right now, we don't really know what we want. We've a better idea what we want for the back. The builder says the external doors have to go in at the same time as the windows (late Feb), or someone will come and steal the windows! gothwalk's dad says the doors should go in later, or they'll get damaged with the building. Oh dear!

As is traditional for this time of year, I'm starting a new health kick. We've joined a gym, and we're going for the first time tonight. I've also just discovered a "walk to Rivendell" challenge, so I'm going for that. For now, I have no end date in mind. I've added it to my 43things and set up a walking tracker account. I'm getting slightly different miles calculations from the walkertracker and pedometer/google. For the Middle Earth equivalence, I'm going to use the walkertracker numbers, as it saves having to convert from km. At the moment, I'm a mile and a half away from Bag End, in a lane.

My knitting and crochet continue. I've nearly finished the red crocheted scarf and have joined yarn in crochet for the first time. That yarn really doesn't feel nice after using the thick grey stuff. I had no problem with it before! And they're both acrylic. The green (for the knitted scarf) is also acrylic. It's not as nice as the grey, but much better than the red. Same price as the red though. I've finished one ball's worth of the grey scarf. I didn't bring more with me, so couldn't continue it in the in-laws. The bit I'd feared with a new hobby is happening - I'm building up a stash. I ordered some Noro Silk Garden yarn (my first non-acrylic) from www.thisisknit.ie last night. I blame glitzfrau for mentioning it lots. Oh yeah, and for getting me knitting in the first place. It's self striping, so should be more fun than the yarn I have now. I plan on knitting another scarf with this, despite not having made much progress with the current knitted scarf.

I was tagged by thesme_01 for the 10 things about me meme. I'll do it later when I think of 10 things. Oh, and kaz001 (happy birthday!) tagged me for 6 random things a while back. Watch this space.
