Down the dark decades of your pain

On a day like today, Pinhead is definitely appropriate.

I mentioned iliotibial band syndrome the other day, and I may have that, or I may have a tweaked hamstring, or I don't even know what. It is horrible. I have an appointment with a doctor on Thursday - the earliest I could get, given that my leg has not detached from my body or turned purple or something. But that doesn't make today through Wednesday any better.

It's been coming on for a few weeks, but it's reached a point where I can no longer pretend it's going to get better on its own. Today I went into my boss's office and said, "Mike, I can't come in tomorrow. I can take a sick day or I can work from home, and with three other people on vacation, I'm pretty sure you want me working. But it's up to you." Since we're launching THREE new programs in the next couple of weeks, he opted for keeping me busy. So for the next three days I intend to stay home on my butt with a bag of ice intermittently strapped to my leg.

In fannish news, I was on the way to work today and it occurred to me out of nowhere that Scott could totally turn Stiles now. That started me wondering - what part of taking the bite does Stiles object to? The part where he's not human and has to spend some time looking like his face has the mange and he's never heard of orthodontia? Or the part where so far, Crazy Uncle Peter is the only one who's offered?

I mean, I get that he doesn't want to be a werewolf, but I do wonder how much of it is about the actual werewolf part. If Scott offered, and he accepted (and lived), he'd be Scott's beta. And he knows and trusts Scott more than anybody in the world except possibly his dad. So that would take one terrifying aspect out of it - being at least partly under the control of someone evil or untrustworthy. What are the other downsides?

1) The bite can kill some people
2) Hunters
3) Crazy other werewolves

So far, being human has been about zero protection from 2 and 3. But 1 is still a very good reason not to do it unless you have reason to suspect you're dying. Stiles being Stiles, I'm sure that one major consideration is what his death would do to his father. So let's take death off the table for now (because I refuse to take Papa Stilinski off the table).

BESIDES death, what are some good reasons NOT to want to be a werewolf?

What are some good reasons TO be a werewolf?

If you had the option, would you take the bite?

Me, I probably would. Like, right now. Especially since it would heal this freaking knee thing long before Thursday...
