Which TV shows did you let go of in 2018?When I first started thinking about this question, I couldn’t come up with an answer. I’m not watching very many shows right now, and as a result, I haven’t really given up on any of them this year. But after thinking about it, I realized that there’s one genre I’ve nearly completely abandoned: late night ( Read more... )

Favorite film you watched this year?

2018 releases {edited to clarify that we almost never go the theater and haven't seen the vast majority of 2018 releases}: Dunkirk was good, but didn’t stick emotionally. Solo and Oceans 8 were more fun than general consensus said. Apparently my husband and I are the only fans of Destination Wedding (that sex scene lol). Death of Stalin was good (more black comedy). Annihilation had a ridiculous plot, but was interesting and compelling despite itself. My favorites were A Simple Favor and Blackkklansman.

Of the older stuff, we really liked Moana (esp the Ziggy-Crab); Logan Lucky; mother! (I found it hilarious, if a little too long); I, Tonya; both Paddington movies (delightful); Hunt for the Wilderpeople (delightful + crabby Sam Neill); Thor: Ragnarok (too bad all the Marvel movies aren't like this). Atomic Blonde was elevated by the actors, but it made me realize that I have some sort of ‘face blindness’ when it comes to Theron. I find her so perfectly symmetrical and unmemorable that her features sort of cancel into blankness when I look at her. I think she's a good actor but I have trouble focusing on her face. It’s weird, but it explains why it took 15 years of seeing her in movies before I could consistently recognize her.

Thor: Ragnorak was a complete delight (I saw it in 2017, so didn't add it to my list for this year). Speaking of Marvel, I did watch Black Panther this year, and it was good! If I weren't suffering from so much superhero burnout, I probably would have liked it even more. I liked Oceans 8, but I wanted more from it (which is probably not fair of me). Solo is coming to Netflix soon, and I'll have to catch up with it then.
