Hello Gentle Viewers

I've been wanting for a few weeks to do a Fall TV Extravaganza!!! style post like I usually do at the beginning of the new TV season, but the sad fact is that I've become incredibly apathetic about television. If the reason for this was that my Real Life had become so interesting and vital that I had no time for TV, then that would be great, but alas, that is not the case. Or if I were spending my time in different pursuits, like reading actual books, then that would be great too, but no, I could count on my fingers the number of books I've read this year. It's...not an impressive number. Instead, I just rewatch things that I already know I like. I seem to be rewatching Better off Ted right now, despite the fact that I've already seen every episode at least twice.

This apathy started during the last TV season, and led to a phenomena in which I would watch partial seasons of shows that I like, but not finish the seasons. Here is an incomplete list of shows that I started last year/season and didn't finish. These are all shows that, if someone were to ask me "Do you watch this?", I would say "Oh yeah, I love that show!": Elementary (love Joan and Sherlock, haaaated Mycroft and Mycroft/Joan), Justified (I will at least watch the season finale of this before S6 starts, because I want to see how the series ends), Sleepy Hollow (love the characters/actors, am actively irritated by the quasi-religious plots), Orphan Black (to be fair, I might have finished the season but the DVR I was recording episodes onto died with the last three unwatched, and I never felt any compulsion to seek them out).

These are all shows that I plan on trying again with this season, because, as I said, I like them! I just never want to watch them, which is really, really weird.

(Since I'm on the subject of me watching/not watching things, this seems to be a good time to mention that I watched the first two episodes of S3 of the BBC Sherlock and ended up dropping the show entirely because I was finding it smug and dull.)

Shows that I watched the entirety of last season and am looking forward to the return of this fall: Brooklyn Nine Nine and Arrow

Show that I am not exactly excited about but will continue to watch because it did get pretty good: Agents of SHIELD

NEW SHOWS that I will try:

Gotham: I mean, sure, why not? I'm not particularly into Batman, but why not?

Scorpion: This is described as being about a group of geniuses who help the government solve crimes. It sounds pretty goofy, but if there's one thing you should all know about me by now, it's that I'm not opposed to goofy.

Forever: Speaking of goofy...a New York medical examiner is actually an immortal being of some kind. Look, it stars Ioan Gruffudd. He's really handsome. Don't judge me.

The Flash: Ugh, I'm already sick of comic book shows and the season hasn't even started yet! But this one is getting really good reviews, so I'm going to check it out. I'm probably likelier to stick with this one than Gotham, to be honest.

How to Get Away With Murder: I like the murder mystery premise, and I like Viola Davis.

In addition to these shows, there are a handful of sitcoms I will try out - black-ish, Marry Me, Selfie (solely because of John Cho, and only if I can make it past that awful title), and A to Z.

Possibly it's just that apathy I was talking about earlier, but it feels to me like this is a really lackluster group of new shows. There's not a single one that I'm really excited to watch.
