We've been following this all with Carrie's eyes and I can't trust anything I just saw yet.
Yeah, I had the same thought. I'm buying it all as genuine right now, but I won't be completely shocked if there's more going on that we, and Carrie, simply don't realize yet.
as much as I've wanted to shake Carrie and smack sense into her, her recklessness has opened up rooms I didn't expect to visit.
I kind of love that the two protagonists on this show are both so incredibly fucked up. It also doesn't hurt that no matter what part of their relationship that their playing, Danes and Lewis have crazy good chemistry.
I was gobsmacked by this episode. I kept trying to figure out how much of everything that happened between them was an act on either side, and how much was genuine. That final scene between Brody and Carrie had me guessing his guilt and honesty back and forth - until his confession, which I did not see coming. I didn't expect there to be a third option. All bets are off now. I have no idea what's going to happen next, and I fucking love that in a TV show.
It kind of reminds me a lot of Breaking Bad. This sort of erratic, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants type of storytelling, and that's a huge compliment. This is some really good writing.
Oh, and Damian Lewis and Claire Danes are firing on all cylinders and the chemistry between them is seriously off the charts. I can't get enough of them.

Me too! I think I was sitting there open-mouthed when Brody admitted that he was Muslim, admitted to killing Walker, admitted meeting Abu Nasir - all the stuff we've known he was lying about. Great job by the writers of keeping the story fresh by not letting the secrets drag out for too long.

If these two don't win some serious awards for this I'll be shocked and angry. This really doesn't seem like the type of quality show the Emmy/GoldenGlobe voters would ignore.
Oh this is so much fun. I think I have a new ship. I need my own Carrie and Brody icon now too. :)
I don't want to jinx it, especially this early in the season, but I almost think Danes is a lock to win an Emmy. I just don't know of another role for an actress on TV right now that has this much depth and breadth, and she's nailing it. Lewis will be up against Cranston and Hamm though, so he has a tougher road ahead of him.
I feel I just really don't know where the show is going to go in these last five episodes, which is exciting! I'm so pleased about the renewal too - Carrie and Brody are both such fascinating characters, who each could have all kinds of interesting stories built around them.
I think the thing Carrie is missing is that Brody's loyalties are still up in the air. He admits there were lies he had to tell to survive. He admits he felt a genuine love for Nazir.
Moving forward I can see Carrie/Brody partnered to a degree to hunt Nazir down (on or off the books), their relationship with Nazir connects them. Carrie who is obsessed with finding him and avenging the guilt and loss of her translator. Brody to reconcile his ambivalence toward the man who tortured and imprisoned him.

Right. For all the things said in that conversation, there were things left unsaid too.
I hope, whether it's this season or next season, we do see Carrie and Brody partnered up in some way. The actors are so great together, and now there's so much tension between them. It's such an interesting dynamic.
