Wow, I don't know how it happened, but this is absolutely my favorite show on TV right now. It seems so...macho for a show that I would completely fall for, but it's the only hour-long drama that I watch immediately, rather than letting it sit for days (or weeks) on the DVR.
- Is it wrong that I'm kind of rooting for Ava/Boyd? I really am a sucker for a redemption story, apparently. I so want Boyd to succeed in turning over a new leaf, because he seems so sincere and tortured by his attempt to do so, but I'm afraid he's probably doomed to failure.
- Yay, a little bit of Rachel backstory! Rachel has always been a character I wanted to like, but had trouble warming up to because she was written as a bit of a cipher. This episode filled her character in a little, gave me some context to work with when I'm watching her. I always like when the show teams her up with Raylan, because he's kind of a hothead at times while she's always so reserved.
- Alan Sepinwall said in his review that he would be happy with an episode that centered on the Marshalls sitting around Art's office talking and drinking, and I agree, that would be just about perfect as far as I'm concerned.
- So, my observation about the season so far is that Raylan hasn't shot anyone, which is notable because last season, particularly in the first half, he shoots someone in nearly every episode. But we're four episodes into S2, and while Tim and Rachel have both shot and killed suspects who were posing a threat, Raylan hasn't. He's returned fire when he's been shot at himself, but it feels like the show is holding back right now on having him be responsible for killing anyone.
