Vinx, one of the most fabulous people ever to not be hugely famous, now has a newly designed website with a blog!
http://www.vinx.com/index.php?page=comments Who the heck is Vinx? When I saw Sting on the Soul Cages tour, he had just started his new record label, Pangaea. The opening acts were two newly signed members of the Pangaea label - an Indigo Girls-esque singing duo called Kennedy Rose, and Vinx. A man who played a drum and sang. The audience was polite to Kennedy Rose. They sang real pretty, and that was nice. Then we were ready for Sting. Then Sting came out and introduced Vinx with a little story: he, Sting, had been in some town in, I think, Southern California, it had started to rain, he had gone into a little bar/club type place to get out of the rain, and there was this guy with blue hair singing and playing a drum. He asked the blue haired man "Do you have a recording contract?" "No." "You do now!" We became entranced. He sang and played his drum - the song was called Temporary Love, and the whole audience wanted it to go on forever. When he left the stage, we were just about begging him to stay. "No, no, it's all right, we'll see Sting some other time!" We waited what seemed like forever for his first album, Rooms in my Fatha's House, to come out. The song, Temporary Love, which he had played live with nothing but a voice and a hand drum, appears on the album produced to within an inch of its life, with just about everyone worth listening to as a guest artist (being friends with Sting is good!) It's utterly entrancing either way. So is the whole album. Then something even more exciting happened - Vinx toured, and he came to the Bay Area! He came to Berkeley! He came to Bimbo's! And I was 20 and 3/4, don't drink, never crossed my mind to have a fake ID or anything like that. Everybody* got to see Vinx but me! (*my two best friends and my sister, and a bunch of lucky, lucky, 21-and-over strangers). To this day, I curse Bimbo's! The only other time I know of Vinx coming this way was in 2003, on a date I was already booked for an event in Reno, NV that I absolutely couldn't miss. As Gods are my witnesses, some day, I will see Vinx live again!
Anyway, what was it Sting said right before Vinx came on - "I'll let him tell you the rest himself"? Something like that. Well, OK, here's his bio:
