Last Store On Main Street

As many of you know, there is a push by New York State's Governor Paterson to allow grocery stores to sell wine.  While that might be good for big supermarket chains and, in the short term, for New York's budget, those of us who work in privately owned liquor stores are desperate to make sure this proposition never sees the light of day.

When this same action was proposed a few years back, studies were done that proved an action like this would force these small businesses to close their doors.  In an area that's hurting already, Erie County and Buffalo cannot afford to lose more jobs.  States that allow wine to be sold in grocery stores have more deaths associated with drunken driving.  Minors will have easier access to wine as big grocery stores cannot possibly keep an eye on who might be buying for who.  Also, your probabilities of finding grocery store employees who can effectively help with wine purchases will be next to zero.

for more information and to let Governor Paterson and your elected officials know that Buffalo can't handle any more job losses and businesses closing.  Many liquor stores have petitions that you can sign, as well.

Thank you!
