Almost there

Well, we are down to just days left before we leave for Texas. Needless to say, I have bitten my nails down to the quick, that is how anxious I am. I'm just a high-strung, neurotic person, I guess.

Everything is packed except for the stuff we'll be taking in the cars with us (Paul is begrudgingly driving a rental minivan with Jimmy, the cats, and the majority of our luggage while I'll be driving my car - a Honda CR-V - with the two dogs). We got walkie-talkies from Cabela's a couple of weeks ago so we can talk to each other en route.

We sign the closing papers on the house sale here on Thursday morning, even though the official closing date isn't until Monday the 16th.

The movers are coming on Friday and should be here all day. I need to warn my immediate neighbors that a huge moving truck will be blocking the road all day Friday. Our neighborhood has purposely narrow streets, so a big moving truck parked there all day is a big deal.

We will spend the night on air mattresses in our empty house Friday night, then go up to Paul's condo in Seattle on Saturday after breakfast. We'll hang out in Seattle that day, mainly just to keep Jimmy occupied, have lunch, etc. Sometime after lunch we'll head back down towards Olympia, dropping Paul off at the rental car agency in SeaTac on the way for him to pick up the minivan. We'll load up the minivan Saturday afternoon, and then we were kindlly invited to dinner at the Pearl's house Saturday night, which will be nice. We'll once again spend the night on air mattresses in our empty house here on Saturday night.

Then we will drive off early Sunday morning. My goal is to get out of here by 7 am Sunday morning. I figure with Jimmy and all the pets in tow, we'll need to stop at least every 2 hours. So, if we leave each day by 7 am and have about 500 miles to go each day, we'll get to our destination by 4 pm or so each day.

We're staying in some pretty interesting places. The first night is Payette, Idaho, right on the Oregon/Idaho border. The next night is Price, Utah. The next night is Albuquerque, New Mexico. And the last night is Abilene, Texas. It is only 250 miles from Abilene to Austin, so we should arrive at our destination by around midday on Thursday the 19th. Whew!

So, the next time you hear from me I will be posting from our new house in Texas!
