[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Gwen Stacy
FANDOM: Ultimate Marvel
CHRONOLOGY: Ultimate Spider-Man #155
CLASS: Hero-ish.
SUPERHERO NAME: N/A
ALTER EGO: Gwen Stacy, high-school student

BACKGROUND:
Once upon a time there was a girl named Gwen Stacy. Gwen lived in a universe that was eerily similar in some ways to the main Marvel universe, except in her universe everyone was a douchecanoe. Unfortunately, that's only partially a joke.

Anyways. Gwen Stacy. A girl with an incredibly fucked up mother who hates her and a police captain father who's never home. She gets expelled from one high school (though we're never actually told why) and gets transferred to this little high school in Queens. This little high school also just so happens to be the high school that one Peter Parker - AKA Spider-Man - goes to. I'm pretty sure you can see where this is going.

Gwen remains a side character for a while after her first appearance in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, and seems to be there to create tension between Peter and MJ. Which she does by kind of attaching herself to the dweeby superhero that she stood up for one day when one of their classmates was being a dick. (MJ really does not like random new blonde chick hanging around her man. Who is kind of oblivious.) When things start to really go wrong at home, Peter's the one she runs to and she ends up staying at Chez Parker after her mom leaves and her dad goes off to a conference a few states away. Where he's killed by a man in a Spider-Man costume.

After her father is killed and her mother refuses to take responsibility for her child, Gwen is taken in by Aunt May and Peter, all the while being oblivious of Peter's being Spider-Man and blaming the superhero for her father's death. It's not until after she's been living with the man himself for a while that she figures it out... and proceeds to hold a gun to Peter's head and have a little bit of a mental breakdown. Everything turns out alright, though, and Gwen remains good friends with Peter and becomes good friends with MJ.

She's still very much a supporting character, showing up for a few pages alllllmost every issue and a lot of times it's not even plot related. Not until the Carnage story-line. Carnage was/is a slightly-vampiric lifeform created by Dr. Curtis Connors, partially formed from Peter's blood that was left behind in a lab. It went on a mini-rampage around New York and literally sucked people to death.

One of its victims was Gwen.

That isn't the end of her story, though, because a complete molecular duplicate of Gwen is created by the Carnage monster. She shows up at the Parker's late one night and scares the bejeezus out of Peter. Said duplicate is captured by SHIELD in the craziness that goes down that night (there were clones and people getting kidnapped and other people getting killed... it was messy, to say the least) and is contained because she is at this point fused with Carnage.

When Norman Osborn breaks out of the Triskelion, (which is a whoooole 'nother debacle) a SHIELD facility where both of them are being held, duplicate-Gwen escapes and wanders around for three weeks until she finds Peter again. In the madness that follows her coming across Peter, she gets the Carnage monster removed from her and is once again poked and prodded by SHIELD. Tony Stark proclaims her a completely normal human girl with no icky slime monsters in her. He's the one who discovers she was a complete molecular copy of Gwen, not just a clone. Which means, as he put it, "... if she is biologically Gwen Stacy, and mentally Gwen Stacy... who are we to say she's not Gwen Stacy?"

So the girl lives again.

Shortly after this, the world goes to hell and Ultimatum happens. Which is basically a clusterfuck with flooding and fighting and people dying everywhere and I've read the thing three times and am still kind of "... what even-" at parts of it.

But after Ultimatum, newly reborn Gwen's settled back into her life of living with Peter. She dates him for a little while, Chez Parker turns into something like a halfway house for wayward teens with superpowers. (read as: Johnny Storm and Bobby Drake move in and suddenly everything is teenage (b)romances and fighting over pizza) Life returns to it's crazy-normal state with all sorts of misadventures happening. Peter eventually gets kidnapped by a shapeshifting duo, one of which steals his face and takes his place in his life which causes all kinds of discord, including Gwen running away from home for a few days. She comes back, though, breaks up with Peter and resumes her friendships with her little crazy family and then Peter turns 16! It's just after his birthday party that Gwen'll get pulled into the City.

PERSONALITY:
'Assertive' is probably an understatement when it comes to Gwen Stacy. In-your-face and not afraid to call people out on their bullshit, she is one tough chick. She's a punk, and not just in the way she dresses. She puts up a tough front and is rather confrontational with people she doesn't know. So confrontational, in fact, that in one of her first appearances, she pulls a knife on one of the school bullies. In the middle of a crowded hallway. In the middle of the school between classes. Needless to say, this plan lands her in a lot of trouble. She was also expelled from at least one school before for reasons that we're never given and it's fairly easy to see why. She snarks at everyone, even going as far as to give lip to teachers when she thinks the situation calls for it.

This is mostly because Gwen is incredibly opinionated and will make sure everyone knows what she thinks of a topic. She's actually a rather deep thinker, too. Her very first appearance in the comics is a few pages of her giving a big speech about the mutants, superpowers and why people shouldn't be afraid of humans becoming extinct.

Despite her rough exterior, Gwen's actually a very fragile individual. She's easily upset by certain things and has absolutely no idea how to deal with intense emotional situations. Her first instinct when things get too tough is to run away from what's getting intense which has led to her actually running away from home a few times.

She absolutely hates letting people know she's hurting, though. When she shows up on Peter's lawn one time, clearly thinking of inflicting self-harm or maybe even killing herself, she makes a joke of it, asking Peter if he minds her committing suicide on his front lawn. When Peter finds her crying in a dumpster when her parents start splitting up, she insists she's fine and makes terrible jokes, even though she's still crying and barely able to keep it together.

There's very few people she trusts in the world, but once she does trust someone, she gets incredibly and fiercely protective of them. They are her family - and a better family than her blood family ever was - and there is nothing she wouldn't do for her family. She'll do things and say things that can seem sort of mean sometimes, like she'll punch Peter when he's being and idiot and she'll make fun of Johnny and Bobby, but they're her bros. She and MJ are the only ones allowed to mess with them and anyone that crosses her better beware because she is one fierce bitch who doesn't afraid of anything.

Sort of going off from that, those people Gwen trusts? They're the ones she lets herself relax around. Never completely, but they're the ones she acts like a (relatively) normal girl around. She lets herself be stupid around them and even though she values their opinons, she feels free to be herself. Even if that's often a slightly toned-down version of the assertive girl she is to the rest of the world, it's different around her friends. She has nothing to prove to them and so she can just chill out and doesn't have to be on the defensive around them.

POWER:
carnage transformation → at Gwen's canon point, she doesn't actually have the Carnage monster attached to her, but since she had it at one point, I figured that being able to shift into something resembling it in both appearance and attitude would make for an interesting power. This would have two stages to it, since in canon we see her partially transformed into Carnage and fully consumed by the monster. Unfortunately, we never see what she can do when only partially transformed, so this is all just being pulled out my rear end.

Being partially transformed would cover her face in Carnage's and give her some of the enhanced strength, speed and agility that comes with the monster. She'd also get a limited use of the smily organic matter that Carnage has produced in canon to mimic Peter's webs. Partially transforming would leave her a little harsher, though, a little more monster-like in attitude.

Fully transformed into Carnage would leave her, well, covered in said slimy organic matter and would make her harder, better, faster, stronger and more agile. Also more slime with which to do things. On the downside of this, though, the monster-attitude and animal instincts to hunt and kill would be harder to control, though not impossible since she was able to do that in canon.

COMMUNITY POST (FIRST PERSON) SAMPLE:
[ the first thing one might notice is the fact that there's music playing in the background. the second thing is that gwen's eating as she broadcasts so there's occasionally odd pauses and some mumbles that can only come from talking with a mouthful of greasy fast food burger. ]

Why do people do things like upload YouTube videos of superhero fights and whatever thing's showed up this week attacking the city? It's like they're the new shock sites or something, people send them around in freaking chain emails. (Let's not get into how tacky chain emails and texts are. I know I'm not going to die if I don't forward this to my six BFFs in the next ten minutes and I'm not scared of the chick from the Ring coming out of my toilet or something like that.)

Have we really gotten so jaded that seeing violence like that, where people might have died, is good for laughs? Is it really entertaining enough to have as many views as the latest Ke$ha music video?

[ there's a pause as gwen takes a drink. ]

I don't know what's worse, this or the fact that there's videos of nerdy kids getting beat up in school parking lots with thousands of views.

People are disgusting sometimes.

LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:
It really shouldn't have been this hard to find peanut butter. It was a tiny little grocery store, barely large enough to actually be considered a grocery store instead of a corner store. Finding peanut butter should not have to involve walking up and down the aisles three or four times and looking at every self with a critical eye. Even if she was craving it, Gwen couldn't help but think that peanut better was seriously not worth the effort and the frustration that was slowly turning into rage.

It was like there was a chorus of angels singing the hallelujah chorus when she finally spotted it, tucked away in the back of a shelf, right between Crisco and caramel syrup. The last lone jar of creamy peanut butter.

A smile crossed her face and she reached out for it. Unfortunately, a larger, older arm reached for it at the same time. Before either hand could grasp it, both of the heads belonging to the bodies of the hands and arms turned to stare at each other. Gwen scowled at the middle-aged woman. Said woman eyed Gwen with a look that clearly stated her disapproval of the teen's fashion sense. Or lack thereof.

"I got here first," Gwen said, very aware of how petulant that sounded and not giving any fucks about it. "Go get your own jar."

Middle-Aged-And-Probably-A-Mother-Of-Four frowned heavily and planted her hands on her hips as she opened her mouth to retort. Gwen saw her chance and took it, leaning into the shelf to snag the jar of peanut butter. She couldn't help the smirk that crossed her face as she turned on her heel, holding the jar to her chest as she ran for the cash registers. She checked out and held onto her bag tightly in one hand as she confidently strode out the door and begun walking back towards her apartment. Victory was very sweet indeed.

Unfortunately for her, though, luck was not on her side. Before she could get out of the parking lot, there was an unusual sound and suddenly her bag was a lot lighter. She looked down and blinked at the handles of the plastic bag in her hand that has been cleanly severed from the rest of the bag. Gwen looked up and watched for a moment as the same woman from before high-tailed it across the parking lot, peanut butter jar in her right hand.

Gwen's first thought was, 'Wow, she can run fast.' Her second thought was, 'Oh, come the fuck on!' and she proceeded to chase the woman, determined to get her peanut butter back.

What she got was a bruised forehead a jar of Nutella to eat sulkily while she watched movies later that night.
