My old camera: Nikon Coolpix 5600. 3.0 zoom, 5.1 megapixels.
My new camera: Nikon Coolpix S710. 3.6 zoom, 14.5 megapixels.
So basically the LENS ERROR means I would have to replace the whole lens area on the camera, which would cost me about 15000 yen (almost $150). Since I got the camera for $240 (3 years ago) I figured it was not worth it to fix it. Especially since I would have to send it to the American Nikon people to get it repaired. So if anyone wants a broken camera let me know and you can have it :P getting it fixed would probably be cheaper than buying a new camera, and I would give it to you for free.
I decided on getting a Nikon because I figured it would be pretty easy since it has the same setup as my last camera. I also found how to change the language setting to English so the menu should be easy to use. It has a different battery setup than the other one. The 5600 used AA batteries but this new one uses a rechargeable battery you have to put into a charger and plug in to an outlet. It's way more environmentally friendly but it would probably be sucky if it ran out of batteries while I am on a trip and I have nowhere to charge it. But a plus is that it uses the same kind of memory card as the old camera, so I didn't have to buy anything new for that. Actually maybe I should've because my card is 1 GB and the new camera takes higher quality pictures so it might be wise to have more space. Hmmmm.
I'm not sure if the battery comes charged but I am not going to mess with it tonight. I'm happy because it is cool and red and it will fit in the same camera case as my old one (my camera case is Hello Kitty lol). I bought a screen protector for the back. The screen is soooo much bigger than my old camera ^__^ I'm really hoping it takes good quality videos.
EXCITEMENT.
