Should be sleeping now if I want to go to church today.
I am amazed at how people can tolerate the high levels of pollution, especially in China. The water is grey, almost black, and all the residents in that area have stomach cancer because they use the polluted waters to irrigate their crops. NOx and SOx levels are so high in China, and sophisticated equipment is needed to build them. The fines on the factories are way lower than the amount needed to build the equipment. Mercury counts are getting higher, and a third of China suffers acid rain. It may look like it's China's fault, but who are they emulating? Who has set the world into this competitive race? It's not about pointing fingers - it's no one's fault but Man's. We may just be working more and more for our own downfall. Price of progress? Yes. Worth it? No.
I wonder just how much propaganda we're getting every day. It seems that Singapore is in healthy economic growth, but other sources prove otherwise. (No one knows what effects the depreciation of the dollar will cause.) All the papers here are government-controlled, and while it may seem that we are getting accurate sources(or it may appear that an educated country like ours should expect freedom of media & speech and accuracy in reportings), a portion of us wonder just how much of it is true. I agree that Malaysia's The Star is propaganda, but it just makes my curiosity grow as to how much truth The Crooked Times holds, especially after reading Pranay Gupte and others. It may appear that the Singapore Govt is transparent, but we all know it's not true. Just how much is transparent, and how much is pure fantasy? We've already known that Singapore is not as fair as it claims to be, not free at all(despite all the rights you've read about in CME classes) and also not harmonious racially. What else?
The Water issue a few years back had the majority of both sides supporting their own country. Isn't this a proof of successful propaganda? I agree that a country cannot do without propaganda, but I just like to read/know the truth, however ugly it may be.
[edit] It is now 7.05am and I have not managed to sleep a wink. I'm hoping I'll not fall asleep during church. [/edit]
[edit2] Smart me has just deleted all my phone book entries in my cell. Sigh. [/edit2]
