Writing Prompt

Oh dear god, LJ gets to see my writing skills...word of advice...they aren't very good. >_>
I have a thing for writing "horror" so you are warned? I guess...
ANYWAYS this was a prompt I was given at the writers group I attend.
The Prompt was "Winter only comes around once every 1000 years, write a story about or similar to this". I wrote this in about twenty minutes, so pardon the possible fail. (sorry for any mistakes...)

"Have you heard? My friend asked me.
"Heard what?" I responded with another question.
"This year, it's going to happen THIS year." She answered.
"What is?"
"You're so stupid sometimes, why Winter of course."
I was silent for a few minutes. "Oh and?"
My friend just stared at me. "It's going to be amazing!"
I just stared at her with a look of utter confusion on my face.
"I heard that the whole world is covered in this white powdery stuff called snow!" She explained.
"You've been reading too many fairy tales again." I stated.
My friend scanned the school yard. "HEY YOU!" She shouted, pointing at the geeky boy from our math class.
The boy looked to either side of himself, before realizing she had been shouting at him. He slowly walked over
to us. "Y-Yes." He said, obviously intimidated by my friend.
"You know a lot about history right?" She asked, staring at him like some sort of interrogator. The boy just nodded.
"So you believe it's gonna snow and be wonderful when Winter starts too right?"
The boy's eyes suddenly went wide as he loudly cleared his throat.
"Uhm...y-yeah I guess." He said as his legs began to tremble.
He nervously ran his hands through his hair before saying.
"Look girls, I gotta go...b-bye."
My friend went to say something else, but he had already dashed off.
"What's up with him?" My friend asked.
"Beats me." I replied, while shrugging my shoulders. "Let's go home."
                                                * * *
The next day my friend didn't come to school, nor the day after that.
After the third day of her being a no show I decided to go over to her house to see if she was okay.
I knocked on her front door and waited. A few minutes went by before I knocked on it again.
I looked over at their gravel drive way to see if her parent's cars were parked there, and sure enough
they were, but why wasn't anyone answering? Now that I though about it I didn't hear her dog barking
like it usually did when someone knocked on the door. Something was defiantly wrong here. I reached
under the door mat and grabbed the spare key that was conveniently hidden there. I slowly unlocked the
front door and pushed it open. All the lights in the house seemed to be off.
"Hello." I called. "It's me."
I waited in silence for a few minutes before I began feeling along the wall for the light switch. Once it
I'd found it I flipped the switch. Everything in the room looked normal.
"How strange." I whispered to myself.
That's when I heard the sound of someone crying.
"Hello." I said again.
Whoever was crying didn't answer.
I know I shouldn't have, but for some reason I followed the sound.
I followed it out of the room, down the hall, and right into my friend's bedroom.
The minute I stepped into the room, the crying seemed to stop. I slowly reached for the light switch,
and flicked it on. I let out a loud gasp. There in the room backed up against the wall opposite me
was that geeky boy from my math class. His eyes were red and puffy looking as tears continuously ran
down his cheeks. He looks distraught sitting there sniffling every now and then.
Then I noticed the dried blood on his hands and in his hair. I looked around the room, and felt my jaw
drop as I stared at the horrifying sight before me. I first noticed my friend's dog lying motionless on
the floor, his jaw and legs torn from his body, his fur turned crimson from all the blood. Next I noticed
her parents lying in a heap next to the dog. Both their skulls appeared to have been smashed into
a wall numerous times, their faces crushed and almost unrecognizable. Copious cuts covered their
bodies, and both their torso's had been sliced open. The floor was littered with their bloody internal
organs, and blood. The last thing I saw was my friend, well her head actually as it had been severed from
her body and was now laying at the boys feet. Her eyes had been gouged out, part of her hair had been
ripped out, and her face was covered in large cuts. I spotted her body laying on her bed, the cuts on her
face were nothing compared to the ones that covered her arms and legs. Her chest had some
large object rammed through it, and her ribs could be seen protruding out of her body.
"I...I didn't m-mean to...they j-just sounded so h-happy about w-winter." The boy said suddenly.
"I thought b-best to put them out of t-their misery b-before it does." He slowly stood up.
"Winter isn't something to be h-happy about...it's really the end of our w-world." He took a few steps
forward, ripping the large object out of my friend's body as he did.
"W-What?" I asked, noticing the object had been an Ax.
"Winter comes once every thousand years in order to...cleanse this planet." He explained, taking a few
more steps forward. "It wipes everyone out, so we can start over."
I began to move backwards trying to get away from this psycho, but ended up tripping over my own feet
and falling to the floor. "It's like the earth is being reborn, b-but it's painful...you f-freeze to death."
He now stood right above me. "They only look like that, because they put
up a fight." He said, nodding in the direction of my friend and her family. "If you don't resist, I promise
to make it as painless as possible." He raised the Ax high above his head.
"You should thank me, I'm sparing you of a cold and boring death." He said, giving me a small smile.
'N-No, W-Wait!" I protested, but it was too late.
I felt a sharp pain course through my body as he swung the Ax into my chest. I felt the blood rush out
of my body as he pulled the blade out. I saw him swing the Ax around and hold it to his neck preparing to
take his own life next.
I blacked out as death took me before I could watch him kill himself.

END!
NOTE: I'm not fully pleased with the ending, and I tried making characters without names, or descriptions, so they're that way on purpose. Hope you enjoyed. Comments appreciated.
