techie me?

I never thought of myself as technologically challenged. I went to Philippine Science High School, where I was put in the technology stream. I got decent grades in our Electronics, Computer Science, Computer Networking and related classes. During this era, I also worked for a dot-com company, for which we gave workshops on website design and e-commerce. In other words, I was teaching other kids about the internet and technology. (Yes I'm that old.) Even before high school, I had already learned to program our vcr at age 7 (so that I could watch Disney sing-along videos), and my typing speed was at a professional level (according to my little toy computer).

So why is it that technology suddenly hates me? My computer at work refuses to stay online for sustained periods of time. The telephones relish giving me false busy signals when I try to call my learners for the lessons. This can result in a teacher no-show, for which I will be censured and perhaps have my pay docked. When the telephones aren't giving my false busy signals, they seem to enjoy creating echoes during my lessons to distract and irritate my learners. Or the signal is scattered so that I sound like an alien attempting to make first contact. Or it gifts me with the traditional white noise and static, to give each lesson that little teeth-grinding quality of annoyance.

I've already logged complaints with technical support. I just wish they'd hurry it up.
