So my work got me a Macbook Pro, and it is hella sweet, truly the Cadillac of computers. Whenever I try to do something, IT. JUST. WORKS.
Nowhere is this more evident than in using Keynote (a program for creating and giving presentations). I'll be giving a presentation this friday and I have been working on it, and whenever I have tried to do anything or thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be neat if..." Keynote did that.
It is quite possibly the closest thing to software perfection I have ever used.
The little remote that comes with the computer normally invokes their all-in-one media player (Frontrow), but when Keynote is active, it works exactly like one would expect. Pressing play plays the presentation, the left and right keys shuffle through the slides and the menu key brings up a menu of slide to let you jump to where you want to go.
The program also lets one decide which display will show the slide show and which will show the notes, next slide, timer, etc. It lets you CUSTOMIZE the layout of those items. It is amazing.
To put it another way, Keynote is dancing a waltz with an expert dancer, Powerpoint is a drunken bar brawl in a swamp with 3 rowdy and belligerent Australian rules football players.
Keynote was written for Steve Jobs to give his keynote presentations at MacWorld and the WWDC, and he has said that it is his favorite piece of software. It might be becoming mine.
My wife might have to watch out, I'll start creating presentations in my spare time. "How was your day at work, honey?" "Well, if you take a look at this chart..."
