1. arrived in texas last thursday. as my lady and i have never gotten to spend more than a week in the same city i decided to spend the winter down south with her. so i packed my bags and made my way to the backyard of some east austin friends (the same folks i spent the last two years working on the film otis under sky with) where said sweet lady lives in an airstream trailer. the first two nights were COLD. 18 degrees. in texas. wtf. didnt have much time to gage it all though cuz i had to dip out saturday morning for a show in orlando.
2. show in orlando:
a few months ago i got a myspace message and a follow up email from jamie tworkowski, founder of to write love on her arms(
http://www.twloha.com/), a non-profit dedicated to suicide prevention, dealing with suicide loss, and combatting self injury. he wanted me to participate in their annual concert "heavy and light." so i was lucky enough to get to be a part of said show this past weekend at the house of blues on the disney lot in orlando. it was really interesting getting to do a show with all musicians and for a crowd that while having some folks familiar with my work inside of it, largely were unfamiliar with me or what i do. real interesting for the change of environment and real awesome getting to work out of my usual comfort zone and all the while with some really good good people. met some really good people. am excited for the new connections and friendships i've made to hopefully help push me further creatively with some of these individuals.
it was also cool to be part of a show that carries many of the same ideals and purpose of other communities i'm a part of--the slam family, the revival shows, and the Baha'is--while being with people i had never known of before. so many of us trying to bring the same shaped beauty to people, working unknown of one another. cool on one hand, while on the other illuminates the need/possibility of the consolidation of efforts to help usher in a direction for humanity. sounds big. but it dont have to be.
3. on sunday i:
returned to austin.
went biking with a.
played 30 minutes of bowling in the new swanky bowling spot the high ball.
got a turkey (three strikes in a row) for the first time.
saw the imaginarium of dr. parnassus. was alright. parts were awesome. parts suffered from that gilliam aspect of sometimes only filling in the bare minimum of story to communicate the plot points. unfortunate cuz the good parts are pretty sweet and the themes and ideas of it are as well.
4. today is beautiful. the sun is out the air is warm. i have a dr pepper and a cute cozy trailer to sit and type inside of. today is a good day.
5. jay electronica is my shit. still and more so.
