Great News, Folks!!!

Whenever I have a heading like this, it's inspired by my reading of the late, lamented Hellstorm comic back in the early or mid 90's. Long about issue #19, Warren Ellis told a little story on the letters page about how they used to say "great news, folks!" at the end of the letters pages on comics in the UK, the issue before cancellation. And that issues' letters page didst, in fact, end with: Next: "Great News, Folks!" And the ' next issue did indeed wrap up many barely begun storylines insanely fast, and there went one of my favorite comics.

Speaking of things ending early, we watched the conclusion of The Sarah Connor Chronicles last night. Add that to my list of "all time favorite shows that ended in two seasons or less." I have much more to say about the series, and it shall be behind a cut and highly spoilery, but that will have to wait until tonight or this weekend. In the meantime, much sadness.

We have winds of 65 mph whipping round the house and roaring across the mesa. Started last night.

And then, what inspired this post, after which I shall go back to bed. (and next week, alas, I must return to a regular work schedule, whilst still helping Sasha w/the copywriting gig, which combination means you shall soon not be inflicted by multiple posts a day from me, so all rejoice!)

First, the gulf spill got me thinking last night, whatever happened to the oil spill off Australia that was threatening the great barrier reef? Is it still there? Is the reef still there? Are Australia and China still there?

This is all over the place in my neck of the blogsophere and has been for a while, but papananook brought it back to my attention. Please everyone w/any free time let your congresspeople/senators/this president know that you do not approve of the Obama administration's apparent plan to help commercial whaling interests kill more whales! Because surely no democratic president would ever do such a sickfuck evil piece of shit thing that is the moral equivqalent of sending in KBR mercenaries into small towns across the world with express orders to torture small children to death?

Just remember, all, "Joy to world! / And all the boys and girls! / Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea . . ." That right there is clearly the theme song of humanity.

Of course, we have to remember the positives. Like all the wonderful people at animal shelters trying to make up for the sheer evil of so many other sickfuck sociopaths out there. Like these, good, kind, wonderful people at the Antioch, CA animal shelter.http://bluesgirly.livejournal.com/194229.html (h/t lj-comm petbulls)

We are the world.

we are the world, we fucked it up
