Dress Preview aka Drawing hats is way harder than math...

I wanted to post these pics here before I uploaded them to facebook. I know all of you will think they are full of win wedding dress concepts, but I suspect some of my family just won't "get it." But I don't care, it's my wedding and I'll wear stripes if I want to! *grin*

I don't remember how to do a livejournal cut! I really *have* been neglecting my public. SHAME! If I could remember how, the cut would start here.

So, my original inspiration when we decided on the general "what we want to make" concept was relatively simple:

From this general concept came a multitude of pretty ideas, but I'm going to spare you most of them and show you some of the latest designs that came about. These first two were drawn and colored by the lovely Sandy, I have no idea if she has a livejournal for me to link to. Until I got my heart set on stripes and decided to draw my own designs, I was very heavily favoring this design.

After I decided I wanted stripes I thought "Hey, a bustle might not be such a bad thing after all!" The following pencil sketch was my initial attempt.

But the bustle I really wanted to draw and was afraid I would screw up was this (and my total favorite):

The base skirt will be in a goldish colored dupioni.

The striped panels on the bodice and the bustled overskirt will be in cream and gold.

The hat, if it comes to fruition, will have goggles on the hat band (omgsquee!) and a jaunty feather/clock minute hand type detail tucked behind. The vertical faces of the hat will probably also be striped.

The cuffs at the end of my arms are basically these but without the roses and probably without the bright gold detail but worn the other way around, like these.

Now, I have to go to work.

wedding dress, steampunk, stripes!
