Today was our second day of filming for the movie. Bernadette and Doug were here, along with another camera man named Mike. Yup, 2 cameras today. We had about $10,000 worth of equipment in Dom's family room. I even got to use the slate (the "clicky thing" with the digital numbers, to sync sound/video). I'm learning so much about the various equipment at the same time, that this is proving to be a very well-rounded experience.
On to the actual filming. We had my sis Jenn come over to be a part of the filming, cuz we got her into playing back in the day. They came by around 2 and setup. We all played a few rounds to get the game shots in. It doesn't seem like it would take a long time, but that was 2 hours of playing and filming. They had two cameras going: Doug the director was on the loose camera, getting cut shots, and Mike was manning the other camera which produced a wide shot (it was really cool - I looked through the screen). Bernadette was holding the boom mic, which is basically the microphone on the pole.
We breaked around 4 and they bought us pizza from Domino's. A funny 'side': on Dom's account there we had free Cinnastix, cuz they sent us the wrong item once. Well, this is about the fourth time we called and got the free Cinnastix again. They never deleted it. Score!
The last two hours were spent filming us walking through the game. They put body mics on us, which was cool. We basically took turns talking about how to play and the actual interface. We also played one song on the three difficulties to illustrate how the steps get increasingly harder. Bernadette and Doug asked us some questions regarding our preference to home gaming. They asked Jenn some questions, but they didn't have a mic for her. So she'll be coming back the next time they are there.
All in all, it was a short day of filming. Actual filming was probably about 2 hours, maybe less. Setup and putting away takes a lot of time. They were there from 2-6pm. I was surprisingly exhausted, more mentally than physically.
In a few weeks (and cutting it close to the end of the semester!) they are coming to film at either of our schools. I have to admit, I'm excited about this. They are gonna film some of the campus and my dorm. I mean, come on, how cool is that gonna be? I don't talk to the people around me (we're all pretty quiet people anyway). They're gonna be like, "Whoah, what's going on?" Like I said, the equipment is pro, anyone can see that. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about having them come to my dorm.
Well, that about wraps it up. I'll post the pictures she sends me ASAP.
