Tattooed Under Fire is a disquieting, humanising work that bears witness to the inner experiences of today’s young American soldiers. The film centres on the military ritual of getting tattooed, interweaving soldiers’ moving personal stories with the extraordinary visual expressions of tattoos that cross traditional lines of gender, class, and political affinity.
