So I was thinking about Dragon Tales while I was walking home, which is this PBS children's show with small immigrant Mexican children that go frequently to Dragonland to learn life lessons (I think Dragonland is an allegory for Mexico/a cultural experience) and specifically there was this one episode where each child paired up with one of their dragonfriends to ride vehicles and go on a race, and the point was to learn teamwork because the gimpy wheelchair dragon wouldn't let the mechanically inclined Mexican kid help, and Ord and Max were peddling in a circle, and then there were these two old kooky dragons using a steam/cloud machine, because one of them ran the weather in Dragonland or something (they won, by the way). Then I asked myself, "Why the fuck would old kooky dragons be racing in a children's race designated for the emotionally immature and how would it be possible for them to not win. I mean, really?" And then I realized that if this happened in real life, the old people would need a handicap of some sort. Then, it came to me.
Square wheels.
Practically speaking, they'd make racing immeasurably more difficult so that even a bunch of evil munchkins that were arguing with each other could win, but over time they'd sort of smooth out because that is what repeated impact will do eventually. It's pretty damn perfect.
