Thing is, there are a lot of long and pointy ocarinas with that shape (particularly sopranos)... but they have transverse fingering, so it makes sense to make them so long to give your finers room. That combination of a long and pointy sweet potato (perhaps this one is a yam?) with pendant fingering is... so strange.
I've requested some relatives who live near Songbird pay the shop to investigate and see if it's uncomfortable to hold or anything.
Aah, I see! But it's good to let it check before ordering it. Unfortunately I've never played the Ocarina so I really don't know much about how to play.

Both English pendants and transverse ocarinas are pretty easy to pick up and play. The biggest difference, really, may be price.
