‘So what are you feeling now?’ Finn asked for what felt like the fiftieth time in the last hour. Kurt sank further back into the soft couch cushions, too worn out to even bother with a glare.
‘Tired.’

‘We should get him out of here, the TARDIS can get a little overwhelming. He’s probably in shock.’

Burt nodded and nudged Kurt towards the door.

They had been left alone in the lounge to let everything that Burt had told them sink in. To be honest, Kurt was finding it a little difficult to believe that that his mother had been an alien and his dad was a time-traveller from the 51st Century.

‘I don’t expect you to accept it straight away,’ his dad had said. He looked so earnest, staring at Kurt in that way that made Kurt want to do everything right. Anything to make Burt proud of him.

Finn, however, seemed to be taking everything in his stride. Kurt couldn’t decide whether this was a result of his laid back personality or because his overuse of video games had melted his brain, but he was willing to bet on the latter.

Whatever the reason, Finn seemed perfectly happy with the revelation that Kurt was a half-human, half telepathic alien thing. The moment that the Doctor had explained that the colour that Kurt’s was glowing corresponded with Kurt’s emotions, Finn had started to make notes in the back of an old notebook.

This was what had led to the endless ‘So how are you feeling now, Kurt?’ questions and it was driving Kurt mad. Or maybe he was already insane? A big part of him really hoped so, but there was a tiny part that whispered that kissing Finn was worth all this and more.

With a groan of frustration, Kurt buried his face in his hands.

‘Why is he still glowing?’ Burt demanded again, squeezing Kurt too tightly to his chest. But Kurt wasn’t complaining because he was still hurting from the wires and the noise of thoughts in his head and he really, really needed his dad.

‘The Myre broke through into the blocked off part of his brain,’ The Doctor said. He tried to get Kurt to look at him, touching his cheek with a cool hand but Kurt yelped, wriggling away. He caught a brief glimpse of Finn’s anxious face before he’d buried his head against Burt’s shoulder. Safe.

Why did everything bad happen to him? Was there, as unlikely as it seemed, someone out there that had just decided to make Kurt Hummel’s life suck?

‘Can you think of something that makes you really mad?’

‘Yes, Finn. Right know, that would be you,’ Kurt snapped. He turned away from Finn’s stupid (adorable) curious face.

He should be thrilled about how close to him Finn is sitting. Should be very happy about how their legs are touching. Should be ecstatic that they kissed.

‘Only because you thought you were going to die,’ he thought to himself. ‘Stress does weird things to people.’

Suddenly Finn’s hand was touching his thigh, a patch of heat through his tight jeans.

‘How d’you feel now Kurt?’

‘FINN!’ Kurt leapt from his seat and crossed the room in seconds.

‘What the hell was that?’ Kurt seethed.

‘Kurt, I- I’m sorry…’

‘Sorry?’ Kurt felt dizzy with anger and exhaustion and pain. This was particularly bad combination, some emotionally detached part of his mind pointed out. The colours they produced clashed. This telepathic thing would be hell on his wardrobe.

‘I’ve been kidnapped, knocked out and the boy I liked was an evil slime alien. Then you kissed me and think it’s okay to just touch me like that when I’ve just found out that I’m some freak-‘

‘You’re not a freak.’

‘I’m  luminous, Finn!’ He could feel himself beginning to tear up.

Then Finn was right beside him, putting big warm hands on Kurt’s shoulders and drawing him in for an awkward hug.

‘Do you need to sit down? You’re shaking.’

As Kurt began to relax he realised that he could feel more than he normally could. His surroundings still felt the same but there was an extra element to Finn: soft, inviting thoughts that drew him closer. It wasn’t anything clear like ‘I wonder what’s for dinner,’ (though he imagined that that would be what Finn was thinking most of the day) but more of a gentle tingle somewhere in his mind.

‘Sorry for moving too fast,’ Finn said eventually.

Kurt sighed, leaning against Finn and resting his head on the other boy’s shoulder.

‘That’s okay. I wasn’t only freaking out over that. But I you should at least take me out for dinner before you try anything like that again.’

Kurt bit his lip. He shouldn’t have said that, he knew that Finn didn’t want to have a boyfriend. He’d made that painfully clear before…

‘Do you want that Kurt? Dinner? A date?’

Kurt could feel an anxiety that wasn’t his own. Finn shifted around on the sofa until they were face to face.

‘It’s not like I’m ready to hold your hand around school, or sing love songs or stuff. But I think I could handle a date. So…do you want to go on a date, Kurt?’

Kurt couldn’t stop staring at Finn’s lips.

‘Yes. Please!’ Kurt blurted, cringing at how clumsy his answer sounded.

Finn closed the distance between them, pressing his dry, chapped lips to Kurt’s soft ones.

‘This is why I avoid travelling with teenagers,’ the Doctor said loudly. ‘They can’t keep their mouths to themselves.’

Kurt and Finn jumped apart. Kurt could tell from his father’s expression that they were both going to be subjected to The Talk some time very soon.

‘Kurt,’ the Doctor said, bouncing over to him with something in his hand. Kurt eyed it warily, not ready to trust the madman just yet. He had been right, the bowtie-and-braces combination did indicate insanity.

‘This is for you. It’s a weak perception filter, just enough to stop people noticing your sudden luminosity. It’s not a perfect solution, people might sense something. You’ll attract attention. People will stare.’

‘Not that that doesn’t happen anyway,’ Burt muttered, no doubt thinking about corsets and tiaras.

‘You mean I have to wear this?’ Kurt glared at the necklace that the Doctor was holding out to him.

‘Yes.’

‘Everyday?’

‘Yes…’

‘Do you have any idea what impact this will have on my wardrobe? And therefore my life?’

****

The Doctor made a mental note never to let Kurt into the TARDIS wardrobe and escaped from the lounge as quickly as he could. Time to find Amy and leave.

He had given Burt the phone number for the TARDIS and instructed him to call should anything even remotely out of the ordinary happen, but there as nothing more he could do now. It was going to take some time for Kurt to adjust to his situation and it was clear that he wouldn’t be comfortable doing that with the Doctor around.

‘I had a cat too, when I was little.’ As usual, he heard Amy before he saw her.

‘It disappeared though. Never found out what happened to it… Oh, hi Doctor,’ Amy gave him a little wave when she spotted him. She was perched on the bottom step of the staircase next to Brittany.

‘You know Brittany was abducted by aliens once?’ Amy said. Brittany nodded.

‘Really, what did they look like?’ The Doctor asked. Probably a space exploration ship, he thought, scanning life forms for a database.

‘I don’t know,’ Brittany said with a shrug. ‘I remember being strapped into a chair, like at the dentist. I can’t remember what they looked like.’

They must have wiped her memory. Probably not a threat.

‘Do you want a ride home, Brittany?’ Amy asked. ‘One more ride in the TARDIS?’

The Doctor followed them slowly to the bedroom in which the TARDIS was parked. He really wasn’t used to hanging around and giving lifts home once the aliens were all gone, but it seemed to be happening more and more with Amy around. Was he being domesticated?

Brittany gave him her address and he absently entered the co-ordinates in and the TARDIS took off with a screech of ancient brakes.

‘Here we are,’ the Doctor announced when they had landed, opening the door and peering out.

Oops.

Unless he was very much mistaken, Brittany’s house wasn’t a metal building in a dustbowl on a planet with one, two…three moons. He stepped backwards, shutting the door.

Amy and Brittany stared at him expectantly.

The Doctor, Amy Pond and Brittany Peirce. He could work with that.

‘On second thoughts, Brittany, would you like to go on a quick trip? I know this excellent planet with three moons…’

The End

A/N:

1)      So there we go, all finished! This part was very difficult to write- I always struggle to end things. I hope I didn’t do too badly.

2)      There is the possibility of a sequel, because I desperately want to write Brittany’s adventures in the TARDIS and of course thing are going to be very different for Finn and Kurt after this. However, I have got a few one-shot non-AU pieces I want to get done first, including one that will be jossed by tomorrow’s episode…

3)      Thank you so much for all the lovely reviews you’ve given this fic. You guys are fantastic.
