so again, its been ages since i have updated..boy am i bad at this. sorry again to those of u that i used to give a hard time about updating...its harder then i thought it was gonna be. haha.
so...last weekend was such a great weekend. it started off with a wonderful train ride at 345 in the morning..which preceded to take me into sydney at 7 in the morning. then..i got on another train, and rode it 4 hours into canberra, australia's capital. i arrived at about 1130 am. talk about a long night. i met a couple there who are friends with my parents, but havent seen them in 20 years, and i just met them this weekend...i was kinda nervous, not gonna lie. but this couple took me right in as if they had known me my whole life. it was wonderful. they took me all over the city, and i learned more about canberra then i know about newcastle, which is where i have been staying for the past 4 months.
so..my days went somethin like this: friday, we went to the war memorial they have there in town. i learned all about what they do for parades and such, and saw some wonderful views of the entire city. i was tired from a long night of traveling from no sleep, so they brought me back to my house, took a nap, and had a wonderful dinner. it was nice not to cook for a change. i met their daughter melissa who is a school teacher, and has the cutest dog. this dog was very scared of me at first, but soon by the end of the weekend he would walk up to me whenever he saw me. so that was friday.
saturday, i got to sleep in, which i woke up sick with a sore throat, and went to the parliment building they have in town. i know..i dont normally like politics so its pry a shocker to many of u, but it was such a great time. the tour guide there was awesome, cracking jokes about former politicians and yet teaching me something at the same time. there was someone who truly loved what she was doing. after the parliment house, which was built halfway underground for protection, we then went to the telstra tower, a big tower on black mountain which was in the middle of the entire city, and i got to see a great view of the city. this tower kinda reminded me of the space needle in seatle wasshington, for there was a resturaunt there as well. then we came back home, had another wonderfully home cooked meal of tacos, and watched the movie shrek 2. the couple i was staying with hadnt seen it, so that was a good time. all in all..a wonderful day.
sunday, we finished the weekend by going to tinbinbera reserve, a place that had a horrible bush fire about 18 months ago..and i saw the devastating effects of it. out of the 20-30 koalas they had there, only one had survived, and its name was lucky. this koala had many a burns on her, but she is going back into the wild, which is such a wonderful thing. then had a nice australian picnic, eating sausages and enjoying the mountainous views. after that, i went to the australian national museum, a newer building that replaced an older hospital, and let me tell u, the building was quite the odd shape, yet interesting building. i was only there for an hour and a half, not nearly enough time, but it was fun walking through. finished the night off with a wonderful dinner, and a night with the fellowship of the rings, and then slept the final night until i took another 7 hour train ride back to the university. now..here i am enjoying my last few weeks here, one more paper to go, and im done for the sememster!!!! yay!!!!!
then im home to see my family, lisa, everyone back home!!! i cant wait!!! its been a great time...but im ready to come home.
until i come back, everyone have a great time, and soon...i shall join in on the festivities :)
until next time....peace
