i seem to have problems with people who have lazy eyes. not that i have anything against them, i just have physical problems with it. whenever someone with a lazy eye approaches me, my attention is always directed towards the eye that's not looking at me. i've often been corrected when i assume someone is being rude by not looking at me when they are speaking to me, only to find out seconds later they have a lazy eye. often times, i feel like i'm even leaning to try to get into their line of sight.
it takes me a split second to realize they actually ARE looking at me and i was looking at their lazy eye. realizing my mistake, my attention shifts immediately to the other eye. but then i start to wonder if they knew i was looking at their lazy eye. obviously they must've seen my eyes shift. are they thinking "i wonder if they noticed i have a lazy eye?" do they even know they have a lazy eye? can they even see correctly when one eye is looking at the trash can and the other is focused on you?
such questions i will never know the answer to unless i have a lazy eye. i'm sure it's a faux pas to use "so i noticed you have a lazy eye" as a conversation starter, so it's hard to ask questions about them.
in the words of the great mitch hedburg... "my sister has a picture of her and her family on her mantle of them looking off to the side as if something happened over there just as the picture was taken. only she has a lazy eye, so she can't quite pull it off. one eye is dead-on."
