The Cosmos Remembers

Dec 20, 2006 19:52

Today is the tenth anniversary of Carl Sagan's death. His son Nick shares memories about his dad here.

Carl Sagan was someone I personally could have listened to for hour after hour. (And not just because of that kickass pronunciation of billions.) I remember being a kid of about 10 and my family would sit down and watch Cosmos every Sunday. I probably didn't truly understand much of what was going on, but it was cool because 1) science is cool and 2) Carl Sagan made it infinitely more cool. He gave us the science so that we could all understand it. And if you've ever talked to someone as smart and with as broad a knowledge base as he had, you know what an extraordinary feat that is.

The Science Channel has been showing Cosmos every Tuesday night. It is still fascinating and I'm getting to enjoy it all over again - and this time I get it. Thank you, Mr. Sagan. You loved learning and shared your joy with us. I know that I'm better for it.
