The Canadian literature exam written today was surprisingly easy. Perhaps it was the time I had on the train yesterday, when I was forced to sit in one spot for 10 hours. What else is there to do but sleep and study? While I did more of the first then the second, I still studied for a good three or four hours. Trains are so boring, and constricting. No room!
Best novel of the Canadian Lit class was The Diviners by Margaret Laurence, we didn't actually read a lot of novels though. Some of the poetry was really good, the short stories chosen for the class were horribly boring. The teacher chose every story according to whether or not he could spin his interpretation to fit into the philosophy of Nietzsche, Lacan or Bahktin. Finally the class is over. That is the second class I have taken with that guy and I am never going to put myself through that torture again. I only took his class the second time because his exams were relativly easy and he wasn't too bad on the essays. But this year he was a bitch with the essays and I cannot handle another 12 weeks of the intoxicant, the lack, the dialogic, and the metafiction. So many of his lectures were just a repeat of those given in 20th century lit. just with Canadian authors. They weren't that interesting the first time and the second time they are not any better.
