"Brain Damage" Chapter 1 [DGM fanfiction]

Sep 23, 2009 17:52

So I was looking through files and I found this little gem: a stupid OOC AU D.Gray-man fanfiction.  I actually still like the idea, so I guess I'll get around to actually finishing it.

Title: Brain Damage

Chapter One: Wherever You Are

Author: moe_sense

Pairing: None in this chapter, it may somehow come to LavixAllen and AllenxLenalee and maybe some KandaxAllen (grr, but not my favorite pairing, only my second and third favorite)

Rating: I’d say maybe PG for violence and swearing and stuffz?

Summary: AU. Allen’s been in hospitals before, sure. But he definitely does not remember checking into this one.

Notes: I was thinking, “I wanna do an AU fic, where haven’t I seen Allen and the gang? … Oh yeah.” And I was so tempted to make the title “Is This Real Life?” (ilu David After Dentist, never change).

"The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisychains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path"

He made a smooth sidestep just in time for her to hurdle by, kicking her feet up in the air and bringing them back down onto the demon’s head with a ringing click-click-BOOM. The akuma that were still remaining laughed and stuck their tongues out, like suicidal children in front of a gunman. And he was that gunman, charging the bullet up and releasing it in a neon laser. Well, at least the akuma died happy, with a smile on their face and a chuckle in their throat. He stopped a moment to consider this before one of his comrades yelled, “Hey, moyashi! Get back to fucking killing!”

With a sigh, Allen turned back to violence and sickness. That stupid samurai, always bugging him. I’d like to laugh and stick my tongue out at him. He felt his tongue lightly press onto his lips and he smiled to himself as he went high and fell low with a rush of air and split the akuma right down the damn middle. It still didn’t feel quite right to him, laughing while the hurt got more pain. But now they’re happy, now they’re better, I did a good thing. “Hey moyashi-” the rambunctious red-haired man started to yell out.

“That’s not my name!” he yelled back.

“Aw, but that’s what Yu-”

“DON’T CALL ME THAT!”

“Jeez, everyone ruins my fun. Anyway, come help me over here, near this building or whatever. A cluster of them have gathered up.”

Allen nodded and ran and jumped through the land full of monsters, taking out those who tried to bring harm upon him. He arrived as one of the vile creatures attacked Carrot-Head. Blood splattered onto his uniform and hammer, with splotches in random places like his face, hair, and arms. More of the stuff oozed out of the various cuts his face now owned.

“Lavi!”

Lavi turned his face towards his white-haired comrade, licking a trail of blood crawling down his face. “S’okay Allen! Just a flesh wound ~ !”

“Allen Walker?”

Allen turned slowly, in shock, towards the abandoned barn’s doors. A voice was coming through from the other side. Calling him, seducing his mind.

“Allen?”

He didn’t move the door started to creak open, the voice growing louder. Allen back up, accidentally stepping smack-dab on Lavi’s toes. “Allen, it’s always important to know where you’re going ~ So can you please get off my feet now?” Allen just kept moving, looking behind his shoulder while trying to create distance, finally stopping when his dumb feet tripped over a log. His forehead smacked right into the tree behind the log and in seconds his face was drenched in red.

“Hey Allen, you okay back there?” Lavi called out. “What’cha running from?
“The person behind the door, that’s who! Look at her!” Allen replied, trying to remove the ruby staining his skin. His pal-old-buddy looked in the direction of the barn to inspect Allen’s statement.

“Well, I don’t see anything…”

“How can you not see-”

“Allen, come on out. I promise I won’t bite!  Come on, your friends are waiting!”

“Allen? Allen?” Lavi kept calling out.

“I can see you ~ !”

An eye peered out from behind the door and in the darkness. A little hand waved at him and tried coaxing him in.

NO!

“Allen, you have to come with me.”

NO STOP I DON’T

“Okay, I’m coming to get you.”

With a small shriek, he started to dash the other way, avoiding land hazards, akuma, and his fellow Exorcists.

“Allen-kun?” he heard Lenalee yell out. “Where are you going?”

“Heh, I knew that stupid white-haired boy couldn’t hold out for long.”

“Now, Kanda-”

The rest of their conversation blurred into one giant scream as Allen kept running from the voice, that eye. Such an evil look boring into him.

“Allen Walker!”

DON’T STOP DON’T STOP RUN RUN RUN

A giant flash startled Allen out of his trance. Rain started drenching him, making the path even skiddier. Thunder howled and the flash kept going pop-pop-pop.

Allen could hear footsteps behind him.

GO GO GO GORUN DASH HIDE GET AWAY FROM ME

The lightning was becoming snatchy and irregular. Many times it stayed lit up got a minute o two. But Allen had no time to worry about the abnormal weather. The dark hands was reaching for him, almost nearing his arm-

GO THE FUCK AWAY!

Got him.

AUUUGGGHHH!

His shrieking continued as the hand dragged him down a path in the woods. “It’s okay, shh, we don’t want to disturb the others. How about this: if you quiet down for visitation, I’ll be sure to tell the cooks that we have a special meal for you with mitarashi dango, how does that sound?”

The thought silenced Allen for then. It’d been a while since he’d had that… thinking about it, he hadn’t eaten anything lately…

Lenalee Lee, Lavi, and Yu Kanda were sitting there in the cafeteria waiting for Allen Walker to come through the two metal doors at the front of the room. One of the residents was playing a beautiful tune on the piano, so at least they had some entertainment. But visitation had started almost an hour ago…

“Speak’a the devil,” Lavi chimed as one of the doors slid open and the trio saw Allen enter into the room. The nurse pointed him in the direction of his friends and he started to head over. Though they appeared calm and cool on the outside, smiling and greeting Allen, all there were blenders inside, except there was no Off button to push. It was the first time they’d seen Allen since the accident, and they knew something was wrong if he was in the psych ward and not recovering in the hospitals main wing.

“Hi, Allen-kun!” Lenalee cheerfully greeted Allen.

“’Sup?” Lavi said.

And Kanda gave his normal response: “…”

Allen stared at them for a minute, sending them all on edge. Had he forgotten them? Did he not want to see them? The blow to his head was pretty hard…

After a few more minutes of examination, Allen replied, “Hi.”

“Oh, you can sit right here between Lavi and Kanda!” Lenalee told him, pointing her finger to the chair that had been pulled out when he’d entered the room. Allen tensely reached for it, gripped it for a second, and then sat down.

“So Allen,” Lavi started, “how is it here?”

“Horrible. There’s so much blood and violence here,” Allen replied.

“I thought you weren’t allowed to fight with the other patients at the hospital…”

“Ha ha. Lavi, I know you like joking around, but c’mon, that’s just a bit morbid.”

Everyone waited for an explanation. Allen didn’t catch on, and Kanda had to say, “And?”

“I mean, we’re in the middle of the battlefield. Joking around could get you killed.”

They all cocked their head, a puzzled expression stamped on their faces.

“Oh well,” Allen said. “Does anyone know where Timcanpy is?   I haven’t seen him since I got back to you guys.”

This time Lenalee didn’t even ask questions. “No, I’m afraid none of us have seen… Timcanpy.”

“Oh. I hope he hasn’t gotten lost. Or maybe he got eaten by a cat again…”

A knock on the wall called everyone to attention.

“I’m sorry, visitation is over. Patients please line up outside.”

“Oh,” Lenalee said. “Too bad we couldn’t see you for a longer time.”

“Are they putting me on a different mission?” Allen asked.

“Yes, a different mission.”

“Oh. Well, see you guys.”

He stood up from the chair and started making his way to the front.

“I guess he hit his head pretty hard,” Lavi said once they were all outside.

“Brother said the blow might have caused some major brain damage.”

“Is that what Komui’s theory is?”

Lenalee nodded. Her thoughts started to drift off, into thoughts of days before the accident, before she witnessed the blood, the tears, the wounds. Why did it feel like just yesterday Allen was telling her, “It’s okay! Don’t be scared!” on their first day of fifth-grade? How long ago was that to Allen?

Did that day even exist to him?

Alen’s voice filled Lavi’s head, words all a blur, the sentences running into each other as if trying to get ahead of the others. He shook his head, but the haunting voice never stopped. On and on it went, “Lavi! Come out, come out, wherever you are! Ha ha!”

“Allen…” Lavi whispered. “How about you come out, wherever you are?”

I could care less, Kanda thought to himself. He’s this random guy who just happened to be there. I’ve seen him before, talked to him before, we could even be qualified as friends. Kanda tried shaking his head clear of any thoughts of Allen. It’s nice and sunny out, I have school tomorrow. History is tomorrow, the only class I have with… Allen. He grunted to himself, trying to find non-Allen topics. That damn stupid boy, he’s so annoying… So why do I keep getting drawn back to that retarded moyashi?
