Jung Jihoon is the youngest of three children, with a set of older twin brother and sister. Jihoon never knew his mother, and his oldest memories are of a man he grew up calling simply hyung. Jihoon was raised by his aunt and uncle, who owned a large, sprawling, traditional-style Korean restaurant in Seoul. It had been in the family for generations.
Rolling in money, Jihoon grew up moonwalking and hipthrusting to Michael Jackson, dancing to New Kids on the Block, rocking out to oldschool rock like Metallica and Guns N Roses, learning dance routines from music videos and lives, making his own, and teaching himself guitar. He went to the best schools, had everything that he could possibly want, but he wasn't happy. It showed in the way he caused trouble just for the hell of it, caused fights, and skipped school.
His aunt and uncle always thought he was skipping school to be doing things he shouldn't be doing, getting mixed up in crowds he shouldn't have been getting mixed up in. But that wasn't the truth. Jihoon was skipping school to go hang out with the man he knew as hyung. At first the man always tried to send Jihoon home, or back to school, but the attempt was always halfhearted as if he wanted to spend time with Jihoon just as much as Jihoon wanted to spend time with him. It was only ever here, with the man and his garage and the smell of car oil and the loud whine of machinery and growl of car engines that Jihoon felt happy, felt at home.
He was 15 when his brother and sister turned 20 and decided to search for their father. Three months of searching, and then finally a lead led them to the very garage where Jihoon had always run off to, and it turned out that this "hyung" was actually their father.
It explained so many things, and was what Jihoon had secretly been wishing all of these years. And maybe what was biggest of all, was that their aunt and uncle weren't really their aunt and uncle.
Three years later, Jihoon was finishing highschool and had struck a deal with the family that had raised him and his siblings (he still called them aunt and uncle, even though he knew now that they weren't). He'd live with his older brother, he'd work three days a week at his dad's garage, and three days a week at the family restaurant. It didn't matter what what he really wanted to do, what he'd really wanted to do his whole life, was be a singer, a dancer. So he sang in the shower, he sang under the cars he worked on, he danced on the way to and from work, during breaks, moonwalked between chefs from station to station in the restaurant, made the waiting staff laugh at the way he'd roll up against them and sing to them about what dishes he was giving them, or how long the rest would take.
It went well. For six years it went well. And then on Jihoon's 24th birthday, his brother got into a car accident on the way to Jihoon's party. The brother's girlfriend died at the scene of the crash, and by the time the brother had reached the hospital, he was in a coma.
Amongst his battered posessions had been an envelope, with Jihoon's name written on it. Inside was a birthday card with a business card of one of the talent scouts at YT. A date, time and location was written on it. He went to where the card told him to go, and met with the talent scout. A few months later and he was in, dropping half his hours at the garage, and making it so that he'd only ever be called into the restaurant if they were seriously understaffed.
Until recently he was still living in little apartment he shared with his brother, whos still in a coma. Doctors don't know when or if he'll ever wake up again, but Jihoon is determined that one day, when he's famous, he's going to show his brother what he's got.
Right now though he can't afford the rent anymore, and is too proud to accept the help of his aunt and uncle, so he's had no choice but to give the apartment up and move into the Yong Tae dorms.
Jihoon is a mostly nice guy, he can come across as kind of rough and unpolished but he's a sweetheart and a giant cuddly teddybear on the inside. His temper is short, and when he loses it things can get nasty. He throws punches as easily as he throws childish, petty words, and his temper goes as quickly as comes, usually leaving him feeling like the world's biggest asshole for anything he did or said.
He works hard, and although he's got money you'd not really know it. He doesn't flaunt it, doesn't live a life of luxury, doesn't use it to make his life any easier. Everything he's got, he's worked his ass off for. He does nothing half-assed, and puts his all into everything.
He isn't all work and no play though. He works hard but he plays just as hard, he has to or else he goes crazy. He loves working at the garage, loves to tinker with cars and motorbikes, and is currently building a bike from old salvaged parts.
Jihoon also loves to eat, anything and everything. His training and his work keeps him from putting the weight on, but the moment he's got a week or two of holiday then he starts getting some fatties ♥
