The world was burning. It was then that The Worm King, whose name is known to few, stood upon the ancient Bridge of Valgard, which crossed the River Haleth, and closed his eyes. spells are learned by taking a special edge available to wizards called spellcasting, which allows for 5 spell picks. a wizard has to take this edge first, and the greatest among them can accumulate up to 6 in the span of his life, for a total of 30 spells (these being the known arcana).

certain spells have an advanced version - which requires an additional spell pick. once you see the system, it'll explain itself, but you'll find that in the AK2 Roleplaying Game Sourcebook.

Kael Braccus, being the archwizard of Roan and born of the ancient Sorcerer Kings, knows somewhere between 20 and 30 spells.

The Final Act ability is directly tied to both the number of known spells, and his level. So, a wizard of greater advancement will have a larger radius of destruction - though the damage caused will only increase if he earns more spell picks.

The maximum level of advancement in a lifespan is 20 levels, which is quite a lot - though beings of dark sorcery can live beyond a normal lifespan and sustain themselves through unsavory means. but for a mortal wizard, the greatest amount of damage he can cause is 120 damage (30 spell picks) in a 400 foot radius (20 ft./level).

So luckily, for the sake of the citizens of the AK2 Roleplaying Game, the world is larger than 800 feet in diameter.

The forbidden arts are dark, powerful, and entirely secret. not even modern scholars know what all 10 are - but they involve binding, murder, and the drinking of life.

Wizards run the gamit from court viziers to performing artists - having as much in common with rogues and bards as they do with nobles. Their abilities tend to place them in the halls and company of the elite, though some wizards shun the public and live as hermits and hidden oracles. The edges chosen for each wizard shape their personalities so that no two are trained the same way, and their spell specialties differentiate them further.
