Without wishes, how would be know where we're going?

HOLY MOTHERFUCKING FUCK. one of my films has been icon'd.

!!!!!

the one problem is, i don't know if asking for a lot of little things (like a header that somehow involves maya deren as a tarot card in a scene from careful with a line from "kicking television" underneath it -- please note, not a real request) is going to somehow throw off my ability to get the things i really want. like rolls of 100t (granted, someone may have a really deep freezer and a foolish altruistic streak) or funding or what have you.

one thing i've realised is that wishes and prayers and spells all serve the same purpose. the people doing the wanting can further focus their desires and figure out what they need and how to get it. it's not so much making a request from the invisible cookieman in the sky (as my friend mike once put it) so much as saying "this is what i want". if you're smart you'll look around and figure out a way to get it.

Am I the first one to do that?

To do what you ultimately want takes a lot of little things, and ultimately a massive team effort. So, I don't think what you're asking is too much.

I don't feel smart...but there has to be a better way of getting through it.

you are indeed the first person to icon one of my films. apart from me, of course, but i don't count. er, congratulations?

yeah, what i've found about any collaborative art is that if you put your ass out there, you have a good chance of getting what you want. i don't expect that anyone on my friends list is going to up and send me an assload of film, but if i put up a post about how hey, i need film, someone might come through for me.

as a side note, i still feel somewhat ambivalent about soliciting donations from my friends list. there are people here who i could not under any circumstances ask for donations, but i need to find new ways to ask for help. or whatever.

thanks for your kind words, ed.

Getting funding is tough. You have to be creative in your pursuit. It's never bothered me that you've asked. can I assume most people on your friends list knew what they were getting into when they clicked to add you?

Then again, should I be posting, "Hey I need a new job." on a daily basis ;)
