Background (AU!Canon; HP): Killer
Francis Bonnefoy was born in the heart of France to a muggle Frenchman and his, though unknown to him, witch wife in 1982. As the couple’s first and only child, he grew up a bit spoiled. There was little that the boy didn’t have; he had his favourite toys, a maman to read him bedtime stories, a papa to teach him how to ride a bicycle, and a grandmother to sneak him bonbons when he was on his best behaviour.

When he started school at the age of six, weird things would happen around the house, most particularly when Francis was upset about something. His father passed it off as sheer coincidence, up until some of the things that happened couldn’t be ignored-like the time he swore his foot went through the floor while he was walking to the kitchen. Upon discussing this incident with his wife, he found out a secret that his wife had been keeping from him since they’d met nearly a decade before-that she was a witch.

As a devout Catholic, he was sceptical of such a statement, but when he realised that what his wife said was true, he wasn’t sure how to react. In the end, he ended up trying to ignore it all together. He loved his wife and son, and didn’t want to think of them any differently.

When Francis was eleven he started attending Beauxbatons, much to his father’s chagrin, who’d wanted him to attend an excellent school in the city. In the end, it was Francis’s decision, and learning how to cast spells sounded a lot more exciting than continuing with the various subjects taught in the muggle schools.

Francis made decent marks in all of his classes at Beauxbatons, but he always excelled in potions. As much as he studied, he still managed to find himself in trouble on numerous occasions. By the time he left the school at eighteen, he’d developed a reputation for being a womanizer-which, of course, in France, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The first real relationship Francis ever had was his last one; not long after finishing at Beauxbatons, the young man had no idea what to do with his life, so he spent the summer at his grandparents’ house in Calais. By then, his grandparents were elderly, so he helped with the lawn and whatever they needed around the house. It was there that he met Jeanne, a young witch who lived outside of the city.

He fell in love, and for three years, Jeanne was his life. When she was twenty-five and he twenty-three, Jeanne became sick, and nothing muggle doctors or healers did helped at all. Francis was too inexperienced to do anything more than make potions that could alleviate some of the pain she was in. It wasn’t enough, and six months later, after watching her slowly deteriorate, Jeanne died.

Francis never got over that loss, and yet again, he wasn’t sure what to do with his life. He tried working for his father’s company, but after two years of that, he realised that he wasn’t capable of fully-integrating back into muggle society anymore. It was the world of his childhood, but it was getting to the point where it felt like he was living a double life. His father was the only muggle who knew the truth of his whereabouts, and it got tiresome lying to every other family member about what he was doing with himself.

When Francis was twenty-six, started working at a wizarding hospital in Paris so he could put his talents to use. He was finally starting to work out of his depression, and doing something to occupy himself helped. Although he missed Jeanne dearly, he blocked out all the pain that was caused from her death. However, from that point onward, his behaviour became more destructive. Prior to Jeanne, flings could last anywhere to a couple weeks to a couple months, now it was a matter of days if it wasn’t simply a one-night stand. Perhaps his only saving grace was that he was consistently able to have a semblance a professional attitude in the workplace.

At twenty-nine, Francis decided he needed a change of scenery. He wasn’t sure what possessed him to decide on Hogwarts, when he knew his spoken English left much to be desired, but his mind was set on becoming a professor at the school.
