I'm really not sure if I'm doing this right.... forgive me if I'm not!

Player Information
Name: River
Timezone: Central :)
Personal Journal: Nympha_Fluminis
Players Contact/AIM/MSN/YAHOO: Nympha_Fluminis
Email Address: nympha.fluminis@gmail.com (Are you seeing a patten here?)
Former/Other Characters in the RP: None!
How did you hear about us?: [If this is your first character, let us know how you found us!] I just searched for "Harry Potter Sorting" and found it eventually.

Character Information
Name: Jon Snow
Canon Origin/Series: [Also, a link to information for particularly obscure canons/characters would be appreciated (other than wikipedia unless it's particularly thorough because we'll check there either way)] A Song of Ice and Fire, by George RR Martin (A Game of Thrones is the TV Series made about it.) He's not really obscure, but here's a thing on him anyways. :D Jon Snow
School Year: 4th
Gender: Male
Age: [This is their age for the purposes of this rp. All students ages are relative to their year, first year is usually 11 and a second year is usually 12 and so on. Any drastic age differences must be mod approved] 14
Out of school living location: [City and Country. We ask that everyone at least live in Europe and preferably, not all in London. If you want them to live in London, please explain why] I'm gonna have to go with Edinburgh, UK
Blood status: [Are they pureblood, halfblood, or muggleborn? For reference, one is considered a halfblood if they have one or more muggle grandparents.] Half-Blood, because, in canon, his father his a Lord and his mother is a... we don't know. He's a bastard, excuse the phrase.

Personality: Jon Snow is very somber and quiet most of the time, though he can be fiercely loyal and does joke around. He's fairly introverted, but a great leader and is willing to do what he has to. He's honorable and respectful. He is usually very distached and quiet, yet still commanding. He looks at everything from a logical, efficient point of view. That being said, he has the habit of saying things that he shouldn't and acting very rashly on occasion.

Canon Background: [This is to give us an idea that you know your character and their canon backstory. When we say brief we mean a simplified version to the point, from the beginning of the series to where it currently is. No copypasting, please.] * MAJOR Spoilers from books if your watching the TV Series!* We don't really know Jon's lineage, beyond that his father was Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell, who was an extremely honorable man that died after revealing that the heir to the throne wasn't really the king's son. There is, however, proof that that's not exactly true either. Other theory Rather than try and explain it, I'm just going to let you read that if you so desire. Eddard was offered the posistion as Hand of the King in the first books, but because of his bastard status, Jon couldn't go with him and Eddard's wife refused to let Jon stay, so Jon joined the Night's Watch, a group of soldiers that reside on an icy wall to the far north of the kingdom, and guard the kingdom from Wildings, people that live North of the Wall and are basically lawless. We discover creatures called Others (White Watchers in the TV series) that are the dead come back to life. When first arriving at the Wall, Jon is very cold and treats his fellow Watchmen as less than him because they lack the same skills as he, though later he shows them how to properly fight and befriends them. Jon discovers they can be killed with fire when saving the Lord Commander's life. Later, goes on a scouting mission, where he gets captured by Wildings. He has to pretend to join them, although he doesn't. When returning to the Wall after his captivity, people are ready to put him to death for being a “traitor”, however others realize that's not the case. In order to save his life, he's voted as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch by his friends, though they all begin to hate him when he takes office because he realizes that in order to be a good leader, he can't show favoritism to anyone. (I went a over 200 words, but I cut out everything I could... it is a really complicated series, in my defense.)

Background (AU!Canon; HP): [200 word minimum. This is the place to put their backstory, as well as what classes they excel in, etc.]
Jon Snow was born to Eddard Snow, husband of Catelyn Snow, however Catelyn is not his mother. Because of this, she's always resented him. Eddard was a wizard, while his mother was not. Jon was raised along with the other Snow children (Robb, Arya, Bran, Sansa, and Ricken) and taught the same things they were. Before his first year began, his father had to leave to do business and live in Southern England for while for work. His sisters left with his father while his brothers stayed with Catelyn. Jon went off to school. During that year, his father was killed. Jon wasn't permitted to leave for the funeral and when he goes home for summer, he is only barely tolerated by Catelyn. He was always very close to Robb, because of their ages, as well as Arya, who, while many years younger than him, was very willing to spar with him and have fun. Jon is great Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, and any other practical class, while not so great at things such as Muggle Studies or Divination.

How would your character fit in to each House? [Please fill this out for each House, and explain why. We don't want see just "OH THEY'D NEVER BE IN THIS HOUSE!" We'd like you to explain why. This does not guarantee any House placement, it is more for moderators to consider.]
Gryffindor: Jon would fit in Gryffindor because Jon was raised from a very early age to value honor and loyalty above all else and he is able to do what he has to do, even when it's hard. Bravery is one of Jon's more notable traits.

Hufflepuff: Jon is a genuinely nice guy, though he's not always the most aware of how his actions will affect others, but once someone knocks some sense into him, he becomes a great friends and is loyal to those who need him.

Ravenclaw: Jon is extremely smart, though he prefers to show his intelligence in practical ways. He has a great eye for strategy and is a good problem solver. He probably wouldn't fit into Ravenclaw too well, though, because he's not a huge fan of books and prefers learning through more practical methods.

Slytherin: As was mentioned earlier, Jon is very honorable, so he might not be the best fit for Slytherin in that way, however he is willing to do whatever he has to to do what he believes is best for those he loves. His loyalty also fits pretty well with Slytherin, but Jon will always refuse to let anyone do his dirty work and will only use underhanded methods as a last resort. Sample Journal Entry: [No minimum here, but this is an opportunity to showcase your character's voice, so more than a line or two would be helpful.]

So, I'm off to school today. I wish I could be more excited, but the knowledge that the main reason I'm going is because of Catelyn's hatred of me stings a bit. I long ago learned to ignore her and her opinion of me, but sometimes I let it affect me. I already said me good-byes to everyone, so there's nothing stalling me anymore. Father's already left, and Catelyn has sent a driver to come pick me up and take me to London. I know this isn't good-bye forever, I'll be back soon for Summer, but I feel like if I leave, I'll never goof around little Arya again or see the new baby.

I see the car that's taking me pull up into our long drive. I take a deep breath and grab my luggage. This is it, Jon I tell myself, just get in the car, and leave. So I do, and I don't look back once.

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person: [200 word minimum]

Jon was sitting in the Common Room, laughing at some stupid joke his friend had told that he wouldn't remotely remember later, looking back at the day. His Head of House had tapped him on the shoulder from behind and simply said, "Mr. Snow, the Headmaster needs to speak with you." Everyone got real quiet at that. Jon stood up, all the while going through everything he had done the past few days, trying to figure out what he had done to warrant a visit with the headmaster.

The trip to his office was all too short. "Sir?" Jon said when walking in. "You wanted to see me?"

"Yes, Jon, I'm afraid I did. I have just received this owl. I think the message will be of interest to you." His tone was so very sad that Jon couldn't help the nervous beating of his heart. He took the letter and read it time and time again, not able to believe the words.

"That's not possible," he eventually said. His father couldn't be dead! He just couldn't!

"I'm afraid it is Jon. I'm so sorry."

"No!" Jon yelled. "No! You're not. This isn't possible!" And with that he ran top speed from the headmasters office, downstairs, and outside into the dark night without thought as to the repercussions of breaking curfew.
