Jake English is a true, stand-up gent, one with unquestionable swagger and panache. He possesses the heart of a true adventurer; there is always a loaded gun and a critical eye on the look-out for sacred urns to topple and mystic ruins to desecrate for their Byzantine wares. In his spare time, he partakes in viewing only the finest of cinema, eclectic as his tastes may be, and possibly engage in a bit of fisticuffs with willing cohorts, scrums and what not. Sex incarnate, dashingly brave, smartly dressed, and clever like three foxes taped together, Jake is a real knock-out and cerulean dames everywhere worship the ground he walks on.
^ And that is how Jake likes to view himself. Now onto the real personality section.
There is one, really good word to describe this boy, and that is: Sheltered. For most of his maturing life, Jake grew up alone in an island, so he has no actual yard stick to measure “normal” from not, let alone distinguish “swag” from “nerdy”. This, naturally, plays a huge part in his personality and results in plenty of eccentricities and idiosyncrasies e.g. making out with posters and not being abreast with the raddest jargon kids are using these days, and it doesn’t help that he takes after John more does he does Jade - John “Mr. Head in the Clouds” Egbert, destroyer of cakes and singing idol of war hammers everywhere.
Jake is a confident, frisky chap with an inflated ego and an exaggerated sense of adventure. He really does think he is an emissary of swagger and panache, and for all his love of movies and comics, he doesn’t think he’s nerdy at all. But there is a hidden insecurity underneath all his bravado. He would talk about fisticuffs, scrums and what not at any given opportunity, and he would brag about all his masculinity, adventures and being heroic, but in truth, the boy’s kind of wimpy. Jake, after some chiding from Bro’s Auto-Responder, admits that he prefers adventures he could win. Jake doesn’t take a coward’s way out, though. If he promised you something, then by gun, he’s going to make it so; he is a man of his word!
Bro Strider, Jake’s best bro, has said “Jake needs to be more skeptical. Rather than take a Pollyanna jackknife ass-first off whatever turnip truck is blowing through town that day, he’s got to apply more critical reasoning to shit. I keep telling him. I keep telling him, dude, you got to be more like Jane.” [sic] Jake is a huge ball of positive feelings. He is honest, kind, open-minded, optimistic and painfully naive, to the point that he even rivals John in those areas. He believes people no matter how outrageous and outlandish their stories are because he thinks believing in things makes imaginary things less fake. It’s that sort of genuine interest and compassion that make him very charming. But as Bro said, the boy really needs to be more sceptical and apply more critical thinking because he won’t always have his friends and his grandmother’s technology to back him up. Also, for all the sugar-coated niceness that he is, he’s not a pushover; if he thinks you’re full of codswallop, he will tell it directly to you and why.
Jake seems to be more into the Physical! He inherited some of Grandma Jade’s inventing prowess but he admits that his good friends RLalonde and DStrider are so much better than him with that robotics poppycock. He is a hands-on type of guy. He is messy, unorganized, and he’s pretty damn good at shooting things, if you ask me.
To sum it all up, Jake’s personality is a regular, run-of-the-mill Shounen Manga Protagonist with a side of seclusion and a whole lot of British.
