Work provided a cool opportunity this weekend. There was a reunion of D-Day veterans in peoria, and i got to hang out with them. This is their last year (this specific unit attacked omaha beach, and i hear is the only omaha beach reunion that there is) because so many vets are passing on (i mean cmon, the dudes were born in like 1924

1.) Why do you need to live back then to serve your country. You could sign up and do it right now. Serving your country is still an honorable thing to do. Just look at all the Support Our Troops ribbons every where. People aren't against the troops, they are against the war.
2.) I think it's safe to say that pretty much every American sees the Vietnam war as a joke, mistake, and a failure. So Kerry spoke out against the war. Big deal. Many American's did. At least he went and served. He actually fought some of the most dangerous assignments. He saw what it was like to be in a war. The horror and death of human life. That's a lot more than I can say for our current president who was considered a deserter when he didn't report. He has not been in war. He does not know what it's like to watch people die. I believe that the fact that Kerry has been through it would make him more likely to use war as a last resort instead of a first.
There are many people who are beginning to compare the war in Iraq to the Vietnam war. It'll be interesting later on in life to see if this war will be considered a mistake too.
So that's my rant. I'm not trying to start anything, just putting out my thoughts.
