Ben makes fun of her. He thinks that because he’s older than her, he knows how she feels.

“I’m not an emo!” She protest, but the damage is done. No one is going to believe her now because Ben is Katie’s best friend and knows all about her.

“Well, maybe next time we can go to that club down town,” Jenny offers, but Katie knows that they will never go. Kids her age goes there and Katie is only a kid, but they are not, so they won’t go there.
“Yeah, next time,” she stands up and wears her jacket.
“You’re leaving already?” Ben’s in her side in the blink of an eye, whispering to her ear. “Tell me the word and I’m sending her home.”
That would be nice. They could go to that coffee shop that stays open all night and has those amazing shakes. They will joke about Jenny’s shoes and Rod’s shirt and maybe Katie won’t dream Jenny’s lips tonight. “I’m not an emo, you asshole,” she whispers back.
