just a matter of catching your breath

Okay, end of the month, might as well update. Kind of a strange month, in some ways, actually.

I had an interview at the airport for the 'Duty Free Store' which I thought really well, but still haven't heard anything back, so I guess that's a no. Not a big deal, it was literally only 6 hours a week. It was actually where my awesome 'ex-neighbor' (lol, she moved back in September or something) used to work, and I told the interviewer I knew her and she just raved on and on about how much they miss her. Anyway. Then the next two days (for 3 days total in a row) I also went to the airport, first to drop off Steve's brother Paul (and Paul's wife, and their daughter who is moving down to Invercargill to start university); the next day was to drop off the father of Steve's friend Glen; then that evening we met up with Glen who came to pick up his dad's rental car which had to be taken back to Auckland.

For Valentine's day we grabbed some Burger King (don't judge - it was my pick! lol... sometimes I just want to eat a Whopper) and went to Rainbow Springs and checked out some of the stuff they had fixed up since we had last been there (namely a pool where they keep really old, huge rainbow trout). We also ended up going back to RS a few days later to check out the 'kiwi encounter' enclosure, which is only open after dark (when the kiwis are actually awake). And it was really, really awesome. They had 4 separated enclosure each with one kiwi lurking around. There was one who was really just racing around the whole time, and right up near the walkway, and sometimes he would set his beak on the railing for a moment. SO CUTE.

What next... BeBaLa in NYC! So Chris and Rich (the two guys I'm working with on BeBaLa Charms) had a pretty good show at the 2011 Toy Fair; they've got lots of leads to follow up on (including a certain not-bankrupt book retail chain, a certain big greeting card company, and potential licensing with a certain magical mouse; to name a few). One of the things a lot of people liked was that there was the 'background story' to the toy; Chris wants me to work on a TV cartoon idea, which I've started and have actually two good ideas for. So that's fun! And should be at least a little $$ by the end of the year. Chris said they'll definitely go to the expo again next year, so I'm hoping maybe I can go to that as well.

Other things - got started on my G.W.Carver screenplay and have a good outline for it. Still working on the Cinema Verde film festival (coming up March 18-27th!) Actually haven't done like any calls for John in the past few weeks (they were out at a show, and then I just haven't had any emails from them) - but the good news is Candace (my original resume boss - not the one who went into foreclosure and still owes me money) offered me some more resume work if I wanted, so I've been doing 2 a week, which is like the perfect amount. And she's paying me more per each, and was awesome and paid me the day I submitted my invoice AND threw in a $50 bonus. Nice. (Too bad I probably have to save that to go towards paying taxes rather than anything too fun... Might got to a second-hand shop and buy a 'new' shirt though.)

Also, I fixed up my website, and if anyone wants me to link to anything - websites, etsy stores, blogs, etc - I'm happy to! Oh, oh, also our bathroom is finished! And it looks pretty awesome. Like the plumber was saying, it gives us a good incentive with the rest of the house, even if the rest only turns out half as good! I've been stripping more wallpaper this week, still lots to go. Hmm, what else... I got one of my twitter account suspended, presumably because a certain production studio in SRQ is starting their social networking, lol, and probably want my account name. I'm going to email them and see if I can make something good happen. Oh, also, have a $10,000 prize to win for designing a board game - need to work on that. Annd, I crashed/fell off my bike twice yesterday going too fast (and then, ironically, not fast enough) on mountain bike trails with Steve. Bunch of pretty lumps on my legs and hip, but nothing major. Hooray, the end.

Edit: Oh and durr... the Christchurch earthquake. =\ Basically the only thing on the news. And very sad, so many people lost their lives. We donated $20 to the NZ Red Cross yesterday (while buying 4 DVDs at The Warehouse for $8, lol.)
